ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

one more idea here, did you try getting in touch with another WC? I'd think they'd have some way of securing rooms for you, especially because they wouldn't want to lose your business.

The Royal has been trying to book people at the Gran Porto, and haven't been forthcoming about this... They also didn't tell me until I called after finding out about one guest who tried to book and was quoted for GP not Royal... We have been telling guests to book, but I was told that they would have plenty of rooms through year end so to be sure and have everyone book by the holidays.... I am kind of panicking here... It has been one incident after another with the WC's at the Royal, and while my FI would really like to call the whole thing off at this point and get married at home, I can't do that to the 20% who have booked hotel and airfare. It is really looking like our only alternative is to move our wedding date, UGGHHHHH! I feel horrible about having to move our date and want offer to pay for any airfare change fees for our guests, I don't know what else I can do.... And to add to the fun, my WC has been on maternity leave for a month and won't be back until January, JOY.
Please share if you think our guest would be offended, would you if you were a guest and got a date moved notice with all the details? FI does NOT want to move everything to the GP and it sounds like that will be sold out soon too....
Anyone else having this problem with communication, or lack of communication, I am seriously at my breaking point with the entire staff at the Royal! sad.gif

Thanks Ladies, I appreciate the ideas, I have a call into the GM...or his assistant anyway since he is on vacation...we are trying to lock down 20 rooms at the Royal, and if we can manage it the rest of our guest will have to book across the street...I am suppossed to hear something later today....the time share thing was a huge eye opener, and I know many brides have over reserved for the weekend, soooooo

ANY BRIDES WITH EXTRA ROOMS FOR THAT WEEKEND THAT YOU WOULD BE WILLING TO GIVE UP, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!! Thank you in advance!!

I am mostly disappointed that I wasn't notified that things were filling up so quickly by Patricia in the wedding department (since Elvy is on Maternity leave)....AND that they started booking people across the street WITHOUT telling them what they were doing....

I will definitely keep you all posted as additional details become available....I am hopeful they will live up to their winning reputation on this one!

I know that my last day to release rooms without penalty is December 1st (my TA & I were just discussing this today). When I find out how many I am releasing, I'll let you know, and maybe you can jump on them that day? I don't really know how that works. Good luck!!!!!

The Royal does tend to sell out and it happened when I was planning my wedding AND the Gran Porto sold out!  The Royal did have some cancelations right before the wedding and that free'd up some rooms but the prices were stupid high.

Luckily we pushed guests to book super early and most did but then we had about 7 people who did not.  Two couples stayed at anoter resort their entire vacation, and a few others stayed at another resort and then were able to get a room at The Royal the day of the wedding and checked in then.  I just paid  the higher price pp for food.

One guest stayed at La Tortuga in town and bought day passes to The Royal daily and it worked out great and came out to the same price as getting a room at The Royal.  La Tortuga and The Royal are walking distance so it was not an issue.  La Tortuga offers free breakfast so my guest would sleep and eat breakfast there and then come to The Royal for the rest of the afternoon and evening.  It might be a good option for your guests!

Hi fellow brides!  I'm getting in married at a nearby resort April 6th, but I'm hoping to find another bride getting married April 4th, 7th, or 8th who still needs a photographer.  I'm planning on bringing Sara Gray but she said that if I can find another wedding for her to shoot while she's in Mexico then she'll give us both a great deal.  PM me if you want more details!  http://www.saragrayphotography.com/ She's been featured on some of my favorite blogs...style me pretty, wedding chicks, grey likes weddings, etc

Hi Jessica Anne~

My Name is Christel, and I'm getting married the same weekend as you!  And we are going through the same thing!  I decided to join this site to see if any others were having the same problem.  We must have picked a very popular weekend :)  My travel agent has been trying to get the last of our guests booked, however the rooms as you know are sold out :(  Originally we thought about moving the wedding to the Royal in Cancun, since our guests would still be able to keep their same flights, and it actually would be closer to the airport.  But.... We already have 60 people booked at the Royal so changing the hotel/or date (according to my travel agent) would be a nightmare for that many people, and is not an option.  Plus we just need about 5 more rooms or so and then we will have all of our guests booked!  We are going to have the rest of our guest book at the Gran Porto and hope for the best that the few of them will be able to upgrade and come stay at the Royal or just buy guest passes!  Ahhhh how stressful!  I wish we were smart like Deniden was ;) and had our travel agent reserve extra rooms, but we never imagined this many people would actually make the trip out to mexico!  Either way, everything will all work out for the best!

To all you brides frustrated right now, trust me I GET IT! I had many, many meltdowns leading up to my wedding and the second I met Michelle my onsite coordinator I was calm, I put everything into her hands and I cannot say enough good things about her.  I would not have changed a thing and friends/family that attended LOVED the resort and compliment us on our wedding constantly.

Every situation is different and I hope you all have the wedding of your dreams!  Remember the wedding isn't about the all the details it about you and your future spouse.

Hang in there ladies!!

I just did my review on Del Sol, and thought I'd share:

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
