I've been sooooo sick the past couple of days, 103 fever etc it's really putting a damper on my wedding planning and I have so much to do.  We leave in 31 days, seems so surreal!

Hi Ladies, I had to share.  I had my bridal shower this weekend and I have the most creative and thoughtful bridal party ever!  They really surprised the s*it out of me!  I thought I was going to breakfast and then shopping with my sister all day.  At 8 AM my doorbell rang I thought it was my sister and boy was I wrong!  I was greeted with a driver (my brother-in-law dressed as a chauffer) he handed me a card and a gift bag and stayed in character the ENTIRE day!   When I read the card it basically said the whole breakfast/shopping day was a crock.  Then he handed me another card and it started from there.  My bridal party put me on a scavenger hunt.  I wonâ€t go through the whole thing cause it was hours long, but to make it short.  It started in RI where I live now and ended up NY where I use to live.  Every step I had a card with another clue to where I was heading next and at each stop I had a task to do and a gift (usually something to wear) that I had to put on.  Starting off with a flowery bag.  Then flower hair pin, sunglasses, fun summer earrings, hula skirt, coconut bra, temp tattoos and other stuff.  My FI knew about my journey but didnâ€t know he was going to get surprises too.  My gift bags were pink and his were yellow with rocket ships on them.  He also had to put everything on.  It was HYSTERICAL! Going into public placed dressed up in these crazy outfits! They had me go all over RI and then all over NY.  It was SO much fun!! I had NO idea it was coming.  We ended up walking into my shower dressed up in these crazy outfits.  It was a BLAST!!

Hi, SweetLe...

Maybe I can help shed a little light on this. I used to be a front desk manager for Hilton, and then I worked for a division of Expedia called Classic Vacations. Classic Vacations is a tour operator similar to Travel Impressions, Pleasant Holidays, or Apple Vacations, and I actually worked in their groups department booking destination weddings.

It's actually standard procedure to request a credit card authorization. I required a copy of the credit card and ID for every contract I did. It isn't necessary when doing online payments, but it protects the hotel in cases when you cannot. The credit card authorization is basically insurance for them in case you were to come back and say, "Well, I didn't authorize that payment." Some of the coordinators may just take your payments over the phone, but doing the faxed authorization isn't anything you should be concerned about. It's a pretty standardized hotel requirement, in my experience.

Hope this helps!

Thanks!

Hi Kylashep2,

Raffaele quoted me $800 .. better than prices I had seen on other threads, probably because I'm having a smaller party. But, also, don't know if the fiance will agree to spending that much!

It had been a week since the first inital reply back from Marvin, but haven't heard from him since. I emailed him again last night, hopefully he gets back to me. Lots of good reviews about his flowers and prices, but if he's hard to get a hold of, I may not end up using him. Keep me updated :)

I'm actually getting married at the gran caribe but I loooove the idea of lounge furniture, you're so right, it creates a great look..so modern, I would love to rent some, depending on how the budget looks close to the end, I know I've read some packages can be pretty pricey. But with the size of your group you could get away with less pieces.

I've also contacted Marvin, a week ago today and haven't heard back :( Keep me posted, maybe I'll write him again.

Chicago Bride- That is so strange! I've never had issues communicating with Marvin - he sent me a contract immediately. My only guess is that he is getting super busy with weddings now. Hopefully he'll respond to you soon!

For past brides that used him, any issues? Did he send you a contract?

GC2008 - some of the ones I've seen have said - shake at the kiss or for the reception - shake for a kiss. Hope this helps!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
