ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

....just when i thought things were starting to fall into place, people start to get worried about the safety in Mexico. SHEESH.

It's like there is an invisible list of "things that will eventually come up when planning your DW" .... and i thought i wouldn't have to deal with this because those that booked have been getting so excited to go.

these 3 guys (yup, guys) already put their deposits down, with 2nd deposit due mid-feb, they'd better decide asap.  i have a bunch of gals paid in full, booked flights and all with less worries than they do. It's not about the money because i know they have it. without these 2 rooms, we won't have enough for the group rate, or we'll have to split a couple of the double rooms into singles to cover or find replacements! a BM's BF already can't make it

this all started when they asked a friend who's in the army to join them for the week because they needed an extra person to make a room double occupancy instead of single, he spoke about leave with his lieutenant and was advised against going - "allowed to, but highly advised to not go due to the sheer amount of violence going on in that country". (WTF, i'm pretty darn sure none of you ladies who were just there got married in a freaken war-zone).

Hearing all that and the media hype about recent violent activities makes them "uneasy", plus they aren't very experienced travelers.

Vancouver was portrayed as a "city full of gang violence" with shootings and stabbings at clubs. didn't stop them from going out to the bars and clubs at night.

Lisa - You too were a beautiful bride!! How was the cake? Also, did you do the cake cutting and then the Royal sliced it up? Or did they leave the cake out? I am a wedding rookie so I am not sure what proper etiquette is.  I am trying to figure out if it makes sense to upgrade to a larger cake for such a small party that I will be having. My motivation is mainly for pictures.  Any suggestions?

i think i'll start looking for nice wedge-platform flip flops, haven't found my shoes yet, but i know they won't be a wedge heel....lol, i was thinking it'll look so funny if i kicked them off before i went into the sand part.

LOL I had platform flips because i was nervous to walk in anything else (you couldn't even see them lol) I got mine here:

http://www.bridalshoes.com/wedding-flip-flops

I liked them because they have white or ivory

Then I got high heels by Pour La Victoire from Zappos to put on for pics and when he took off my garter. BTW, i loooove Pour La Victoire because most of their bridal shoes have blue heels for your something blue and already have " I DO" under the arch in rhinestones :-)

I lost a bridesmaid FIVE DAYS before because of this. I would reassure them that this is very true for BORDER towns, but not so for riviera maya areas.

Thank you ma'am. The cake was delicious from what I got (they finished it all before i could get my "real piece" lol) It was Tres Leches. We cut our slice to feed each other and then yes, they cut the rest into slices for the guests. I had 30 people and I believe it would have been enough with the standard cake, but people were getting thirds lol (that should be an indication of how good it was).

there's crime everywhere, being careful and noticing our surroundings can go a long way in keeping ourselves safe - at home and travelling. well, they're missing out if they decide not to come    =)

thanks!

honestly, i LOVED having the reception inside! i know its not the most popular idea, but it was really nice for us.  i think it was more private then outside....we did have a few people look in, but it was no big deal.  PLUS it was really nice having bathrooms so close! and to be honest.....its hard to believe....but i don't remember seeing the bar!! they were so busy making sure i always had a full glass of champagne that i didn't pay attention!! i don't think there was a bar set up in the room, but i do know you could get whatever you ordered.  one of my cousins brought me out to the lobby bar for a tequilla shot....and afterwards we found out people were taking tequilla shots in our reception, with a much better tequilla! i loved it! it did get a bit warm....but we were also dancing up a storm! and when you walked out into the hallway, you realized it was actually cooler in the reception, its just you are in mexico etc :) if you are thinking about having it in the ballroom, don't worry, it was great! :)

diahr - about the cake - i wouldn't suggest an upgrade :) you mentioned you are having a small party, ours was 60 people and we had A LOT of cake leftover! and we just brought a fancy "J" to stick in for a cake topper and it made for some great pictures :)

Rosie,

People in the Canadian army are usually ...drop outs, commercial pilots wannabes, don't know what to do with my life people...seriously..I don't think they are that bright, and thx god, USA is next to Canada, if not I am sure some other countries would have gulp us a long time ago!!!  Do you know that Israel is a tourist destination too?  is that a country in war?! no! in fact, it is pretty safe.

Wedding decor,

In addition to going out with a blackberry ?!?! +$700 cash. Did u see the pic of that Canadian victim?!  Not only the rape kit came out negative...but ..Seriously, I don't think cops based in Cancun/PDC have low self-esteem!  They could've pickup sexy cougars, drunk students...instead of..getting this madame from Thunder Bay.

back to Royal PDC, did anyone ever upgrade from Mastersuite to the President suite with the pool? if yes what was the price that the resort asked?

The reason I ask this is..last year, when Air Canada Vacation told me that the RoyalPDC was full, and I had to stay at the Gran Porto...but then when I check in at the Gran Porto, they offered me $50 per night per room to upgrade to the Royal...which was CHEAPER than the AC package..even if it was available.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
