ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies!

Diahr - It is sad to hear that your FI's parents are making excuses.  Whether they are there or not, you will have an amazing time.  It may not seem like it now, but it really will work out in the end.  I have very little of my family attending and I'm ok with it.  At first I was sad, but then came to the realization that we chose this path and are happy with our choice.  We wouldn't have it any other way!

Prettypigpig and Jesmcan - Thanks for the info on pesos!

FutureMrsYak and OribitingBklyn - See you guys this weekend!

msglave - I hear ya on losing your mind!  Nobody told me that the last month would get crazy.  I wish I had started on somethings sooner, but oh well.  If its not done now, its not getting done.

I leave at 6AM tomorrow!  I'll post tons of pics when we get back.

Hi Ladies!!!!

I just got in an hour ago and it was AMAZING!!!!  Holy Canolli!! lol

I have no idea where to start....I will be more coherent tomorrow and write my review, but for now off top of my head....

The Royal rox so much! I can't tell you how awesome it is. Even my rich bro and his partner (who go to really top notch places), raved about it. My room was amazing- it was a junior oceanfront and Jill had previously asked that I be near the gazebo so I wouldnt have to walk far. It was perfect! I was in room 534 which was a corner suite on the 5th floor just above gazebo. The elevator was right near the room and when I exited, I was right there in the walkway before turning to walk down the aisle. An added bonus to this room is that it has a side window as well next to the jacuzzi which takes up most of the wall

It was scheduled to rain during the whole week, but only rained 2x in the ten days i was there. It started sprinkling at 9:45 the wedding night and our reception ended at 9:30- what luck!

Hey, anyone out there feeling totally overwhelmed at planning the details of a wedding in Mexico?  We are definitely on a budget...we opted for the free wedding, as the cost of the master suite was actually less than paying for the wedding package.  We wanted to upgrade the flowers, cake, etc., anyway, so this seemed like the best way to go.

Our wedding is May 21, 4pm in the gazebo.  We have no idea how many people will be able to come, but we think it will be very small.  Was anyone able to see the final guest list before planning the reception?  I'd like to do a private reception, but only if it is relatively small group...this can get really expensive with a lot of people!  Has anyone had experience with a small, semi-private reception?

Our wedding planner's name is Elvy.  Has anyone worked with her before?  She seems super helpful so far, and very responsive.

I'm also interested in what people have done for hair/makeup?  How's the salon at the resort?  Should I book an appointment with someone else?  How about the photographer?  We definitely want to choose our own photographer, but the contract says there is a $350 fee for outside vendors.  Is there a way around this, if I want to use a local photographer?  Would I have to pay this fee if I wanted to hire my own mariachi band?  I've heard of other people doing this.

I am so excited, but a little nervous about what I need to do to prepare.  If anyone can share stories about how they are getting ready for the big day at the Royal, I would be grateful :)

Thanks,
Jen

MsGlave - Please make sure you try to take time to breath. I too have a very crazy/stressful job. Try and focus on the fun wedding stuff, not the awful work stuff if you can.  I brought my personal laptop with me today so I could get some wedding stuff done here.  The work will be there when you back so cheat when you can. I am cheating by being on the fourm right now! teehee!

We are all so excitied for your big day.  Please keep us posted. So glad to here the fittings and party went well!  Bachelorette party #2 - so jealous! For the centerpieces can you get Marvin to do something for you? His prices are very reasonable compared to the Royal's and he's been very responsive to me. His info is below:

Jenny, I hope you had a wonderful wedding day! Can't wait to here all about it!

When does Lisa come back

diahr, I hope everything works out.

We are trying to get our centerpieces together. I remember one of the November brides (maybe runningbride?) found a floral store in the area. Does anyone know the name, website, phone, contact info or whatever for the store?

Also brides who have been to the Walmart, what has your experiences been like? We are seriously considering purchasing glass vases there but the FI is like, what if the stock is limited, etc./ etc.

I need some time off work! Screaming AHHHHHHH!!!!!

Lisa - I am so happy that everything turned out great!!! I think I speak for everyone when I say you are one of the sweetest people on here! You deserved a great wedding.  Can't wait for your review.  Again, I am so happy that everything worked out for you!! Can't wait to tell my FI.  He calls you ladies - "your girls on the blog."

For the bride who have already gotten married and used Marvin, I have a question.  First did the deliver the flowers to the hotel outside and you just had someone pick them up for you?  Did he charge a delivery fee?  Also, I know to avoid the vendor fee you are supposed to put them on the tables yourself....but when did you have someone do this?  How far in advance are the tables set up?  Any recommendations would be greatly apprecaited!

diahr - that is great news!  I am sorry to hear about your family dilema you are in.  I didn't have anything that extreme, but I do have a future sister in law, that we gave $1,000 to so that she could come, just bitch and bitch and bitch about EVERYTHING and how expensive everything is.  When it is all said and done we will have paid more for her to come than she did.  It's frustrating...but at the end of the day, it's your day, and all that matter and you and him.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
