ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

Thanks Kelly- I did try it on the dress and it seemed a bit full or heavy for the heat in Playa, I wasnt sure if I should have it removed. I think if i make it less full it might take away the beauty of it all. Still debating.

Jess-Im so jealous everyone can see your pics, for some reason I cant see anything!! wacko.gif

I think Im going to have a smaller wedding then anticpated, we started out with 4 BMs and 4 GM and now 2 of my BMs cant go, yet all his GM are on board! Im not sure what I can do now that the party is thrown off. Any suggestions? I was thinking of just having the girls walk and all the GM already at the altar.

Question for already married brides on the beach. It seems like everyone is going with the Gazebo, has anyone married on the beach? I would love to see pics of the way you decorated or how they set up :)

I cant wait to see all the newly wed brides reviews and pics to get inspired!! YAY!!

Hi!  Thanks so much!

My ceremony was at 5:00.  I thought it was a great time to do it.  We did rush a little bit during cocktail hour to get pictures but everything worked out great.  I didn't mind rushing the pics since i'm not big into posing for pics anyway.  Plus, since your in June...you'll have more than an hour more sun than I did, so i think a 6:00 ceremony is perfect in June :)  If you want a little more sun for first dance, etc...you can switch to 5.  I'll make sure to post my Funever pics when I get them.

We also did symbolic and it seems very official because you sign a certificate at the end in front of everyone.

Perfect, we are actually doing our reception in the ballroom so it sounds like we will have plently of sun for the pics.  That is such a relief to hear that they make the symbolic seem official, I was worried we were going to run into some complications with that.

you're welcome - I should have also mentioned how much I LOVE your dress!! it's absolutely GORGEOUS! who is it made by?

if there are layers underneath that you can't see, maybe it's worth getting rid of them, but otherwise, I'd be tempted to sweat it out for a dress like that. : )

I've seen LOTS of photos of one GM walking down the aisle with two BM. I guess it's not as pimp to have two guys and one girl, but it'd still be cute. : ) otherwise, I like your idea of just having the girls walk. I'm sure it will work out, no matter what you decide.

here is someone's beach cermony setup. this is my first shot a posting photos. if it doesn't work, I'll PM you.

thank you, lisa, that helps a lot and is really good insight. I actually have a minority of married/kids friends, so hopefully that will work in my favor. also, all our friends are shared (I knew the majority from days before FI and I met), so he'd probably feel he was partying it up with my friends no matter what. : ) I could see how that would be harder on the other side, but the resort is SOOOOO amazing, I know you'll have the best time, no matter WHO is there!

ha, I should take my own advice... : )

FI has a about 8 friends going (they are all unmarried, no children and most are single)

I have 1 friend booked (unmarried, coming with her boyfriend)...supposed to have another friend coming, but she hasn't booked and well, wedding is in 8 days. Most of my friends are married with (small) children, so I think that played the biggest factor among my core group because even after the age of 2, you have to pay for their airline seat.

I will admit, I sometimes send FI a little sad face in IM convos lol and tell him I'm jealous that most of his good friends are going and a lot of mine are not, but I know that I will love and always remember my wedding in Mexico and how much I love him. It does bring me comfort that we are having a home reception, however, so my good friends WILL be at that. You would always do something at home- it can be as simple as a small casual bbq at home, to an elaborate affair, but your friends will definitely celebrate your union with you there :-). I hope that helps.

Welcome back and CONGRATS Jes!!  I need to go find your review and planning thread asap! haha Well assuming they're already up!

Sorry, to everyone that is dealing with friends and family not coming or backing out...I would be devasted if my parents could not make it.

A little bit of my own "situation" -

My mom has been worried since they day I told her we are going to do a DW in Mexico.  She finds a lot of different reasons to question why we are having it there.  BUT then she got really excited (and I guess felt like it was actually real) when she received the STD in the mail and checked out our website.  She does not do a whole lot of traveling and until recently never flew except maybe every five or so years!  I don't think she's ever been out of the country either!  Things are looking up - her good friend told her today that she and her husband are coming to the wedding.  They do a lot of traveling and have been to Mexico before, so I think that made her feel a lot better.  :)  YAY!!  So, now I just need to push my mom and dad to start working on their passports!  Oh joy!

Anyways...I don't know what all I'm going to get my bridesmaids yet.  So far I have only ordered beach towels that have their names monogrammed on them.  They have a little pocket on the side to put sunglasses, chapstick, etc. in and they fold into a bag that can easily be carried.  I found them on Etsy and they are super cute!  I would really like to buy their BM dresses for them, but first I need to find them!  haha

plane.gif  <---- These new ones crack me up!!!

ahahahah planning thread is up review not yet all the pics from guests are still streaming through :) so this weekend I will get the review up

My biggest hurdle so far has been w/my bridal salon.  Upon ordering my dress, they were so fantastic....great customer service, friendly, answered questions, etc.  Last night, I FINALLY got my dress (I leave in 15 days).  The salon promised the dress two weeks ago.  IT IS THE WRONG COLOR.  It is white and I mean white.  I ordered ivory.  The second the seamstress pulled it out of the bag, I said it's the wrong color.  They tried to tell me that I ordered white.  Um, no.  All along, I wanted ivory.  My shoes are ivory, my veil is ivory, etc.  They are contacting Maggie Sottero today to see if they can ship out a new dress today.  Cross your fingers!  If this is the worst thing that happens, I can deal with a white dress.

Also, my mom's dress still hasn't come in from them and they keep saying it will be here in time.  They also promised her dress 2 weeks ago.  How long does it take?  UGH!

Ok, enough venting.  Things could be much worse....I keep trying to keep things into perspective.

I am so sorry to hear about your dress!!!! don't worry I know it does not seem like it now but everything will work out perfectly. Everything just has a way of falling into place.

Natalie your wedding looked so beautiful; I actually got a little teary eyed.  We are also using Funever as our photography and videographer due to budget reasons, I had requested Caesar  and I am glad to hear he was good to work with and I canâ€t wait to see the pics!  What time was your ceremony?  We are scheduled to have ours at 6pm on June 19 2011 but now I am wondering if the time should be moved back to 5pm or 530pm so we can have better sunlight for pictures.

Also we are doing the symbolic ceremony, but we are not telling our friends that we are getting married before we go to Mexico.  Does anyone know if the minister makes it a point to say itâ€s a symbolic ceremony or do you think they would be able to keep it quiet?  We really want June 19 to be celebrated our wedding date instead of the day that we are going to sign the papers.

As for the explosion over the weekend it breaks my heart that this happened, I canâ€t imagine what those families are going through right now, my thoughts and prayers go out to them.   I too was worried that our guest, we have 32 so far, would be concerned that this was an act of terror so I emailed everyone as soon as I heard about the story yesterday morning to let them know what was going on and that it was unpredictable and could have happened anywhere.  So far everyone is still on board for Mexico

YAY!!! please so share once you do it :)

So its official ladies I went to the social security office today and had no problems what so ever. I did not even have to go get my marriage license transalated, it took all of 5 minutes :)

I took care of all the other places so last thing now is passport. Which by the way ladies if you get the name on your passport changed within three months of getting married its free. After three months its $100.

I meant to tell you guys to, the blood work was a piece of cake. It took two seconds and the nurse showed me the seal break. She was so sweet.

Also RunningBride had given me the tip to make sure to check on all my appointments when I arrived. Good thing I did because the SPA had none of them. Zulma even showed me the e-mail she sent them so this was definitely the SPA's fault. So be sure to double, triple check on all your appointments.

I have been back for about a week, but yesterday was my first day back to work which sucked big time!  I want to go back!

The Royal was perfect!  The service was phenomenal, the food was great (especially at Maria Marie and Asiana), and all of our guests had a fantastic time.  Although our wedding was small (only 25), we had lots of great times (and the pics to prove it - lol).

A couple of things:

Don't worry about the weather forecast before you get there.  It had actually forecasted rain the whole time we were supposed to be there, and the only time it did rain was the first day for 10 minutes.  Otherwise it was beautiful.  No need to stress about it.

We added several guests after we got there (last minute people that decided to go), and it was no problem.  I just paid the additional fee the day before the wedding when I met with my WC Denys.  No sweat.  Just make sure you let your bank know you're going to be in Mexico, otherwise your debit may get declined like mine did the first time.  :-)

We felt super safe the whole time we were there.  We had read that worrying about crime in the border towns is like worrying about a crime wave in Chicago when you're vacationing in Key West.  It's so far removed from the violent areas that it really isn't an issue.  Although my husband's mother didn't go because she's terrified of Mexico, she really would have had nothing to worry about.

Nate Broshot (that's his professional name) was the most amazing photographer, and he's way less expensive than the least expensive photographer we found in Playa.  He was one of the best parts of the wedding.  Check out my review on him in the vendor thread.

All in all, it was the best vacation ever.  I even met Randi, although when I met her by chance at the Asiana bar I didn't realize she was on the forum.  We still did shots, though!  :-)  Glad to hear her wedding went amazingly well also - she got married after we left.

Let me know if you guys have any questions - we were on a pretty tight budget, and we certainly found ways around some of their fees.  :-)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
