Not a former bride so I don't have any advice, but I will say that when I read what the legal wedding script had to be, it definitely convinced me to do a symbolic ceremony! That way I can tailor the sayings/readings and sand or stone blessings to how I always envisioned my day going.. Something to consider at least!

I have heard other brides who did the legal wedding, and also recited their own vows as well. Surely they will allow you to at least do that at some point in the ceremony. Good luck!

I leave exactly 2 weeks from today!  I'm SO ready....all im waiting for is my chair sashes and my place cards for the guests (which I'm going to attach to maracas).  DO NOT order anything from Diva Girl Designs.  I ordered Sashes from them about 6 weeks ago (picked them because of this color I really wanted and couldn't find).  She kept saying 2 more weeks, 2 more weeks...and barely even a sorry!  If you don't have the product just say so!  Supposedly I'm getting them by Friday.

I order my chair sashes from http://www.weddinglinensdirect.com/. They came in super fast and they were a great price. I'd recommend them if you need an alternative. Good luck!

Ugh crappy! If they fall through on you, i used these folks: https://www.weddingslinen.com/index.php . Placed two separate orders with them and had sashes and table overlays within a week.

I was really, really wanting tres leches cake :-( ..she couldnt explain why (she said she wasnt sure how to translate). Sigh. Did you get an upgraded cake? How did you choose the caramel and coffee filling (sounds delish!)

Does anyone else have the luxury package? We paid (for non-real guests) an additional 80 pp for reception, 20 pp for cocktail and 20 pp for cake/champagne toast? Is that last charge right? I see a charge of 10 pp in the previous package, but nothing about 20 pp in luxury for champ/cake. Weird.  (and 10pp for hot canapes) So 130.00 pp for non real ...yikes ....4 so far

Hi Lisa,

I have the luxury package and my WC never quoted an additional charge for the cake/champagne toast, but I never specifically requested a champagne toast. I wonder if the extra price is because of the champagne. We're not going to have a champagne toast. It doesn't seem worth it when some people don't drink champagne and there's an open bar so people will already have drinks in their hands!

I signed my contract in January, so I got the rates from last year. I'm paying $20 pp for the cocktail and $60 pp for the reception for our non-resort guests. We have 11 so far!  When I got my final bill they were trying to charge me a higher rate for non-resort guests, but I asked the WC to change it back to the prices that were quoted when I signed my contract. It was not a problem at all.  You should double check the prices that were posted when you signed your contract and make sure they give you those prices. Don't let them get away with increasing the prices on you!

Heidi - It is a little confusing...they list is as "The Royal in Playa del Carmen", so it's in T instead of R.  Weird but it works!

The ceremony thing definitely sucks!  I wanted to have mine mostly custom since I'm doing symbolic. But my WC said that it's "not recommended" ugh.  I'm just going to throw a couple of things in that i want them to say.  I'm scared of it being 100% custom and them messing it up.

I just figured out what we're doing for legal...My stepmom is a notary and will "marry us" right before us & our immediate families leave to go to the airport for our trip.  It's basically a 30 second ceremony that says... "Even though you are taking your vows in Mexico in several days, you are entering the commitment of marriage in the State of Florida".  glad that is figured out!

Natalie - if you're having a symbolic wedding - have a special guest perform the ceremony for you. We're having a close friend perform ours (we already did the legal part) and my WC said we could do whatever we want if we went that route - plus saving yourself $400 on a civil servant or judge to perform for you. Unless you have the free wedding - then that person is included.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
