Did everyone bring a cake topper down with them? I wondering if I could skip the cake topper, because the cake I picked has alot on it...and I'm trying to pack as least as possible....well I guess I could just get the kind of topper that is the letter..that's simple.

For our at home reception I ordered a topper for my FH- It is his college sport team themed. The bride is dragging the groom and he has the team helmet on his lap, it's pretty funny. But I don't want to bring that to Mexico it was pretty pricey to risk anything happening to...

Hmm that was pretty obvious, I don't think anyone expected light to beam up through the top of the table, lol!!!

I noticed on another thread you were considering Fernando Fuentes for your hair & makeup? Did you book him? I just emailed him myself for pricing and availability. If you're not using him who did you go with? I like how Norma from MAC in Cancun cost less but quality is still great.

Has anyone else used Norma from MAC in Cancun?

I guess I should do some sort of spreadsheet and compare rates for things and see.

I think we are saving around $1000, we are not factoring in room cost in our budget though.  We are not taking a honeymoon so decided to splurge and do 8 nights in an Oceanfront Master Suite.  I believe you have to stay in Master Suite or higher to qualify for Free Package.

I would suggest doing a spreadsheet, it's a little grueling but it's worth doing! Take what you need from the pacakge and go from there.

We are doing a private reception on Pelicanos beach.  The best part about the Free pkg is the we are getting exactly what we want by doing everything ala carte AND saving money.  It's great! :)

We did the same thing!! We actually figured out that even with the room upgrade it is still cheaper for us to do the free and do everything ala carte....

and as far as the $350...I know its a lot and it is irritating sometimes, but I know that at some resorts it is $500+!!

I agree it could be worse!  Some resorts don't even allow outside vendors even photographers!

I'll have to check with my WC about it. I'm praying it's $100. Might as well learn how much everything is up front before I start booking outside vendors. That's so awesome you were able to do the free wedding. I'm pretty happy with the Luxury package but I wish I heard better comments about SpaAzul so I can use their services. LOL..I'm debating on hair. I hear they do decent hair. Awesome!! I'm thinking about using Fernando Fuentes as well. Would you mind sharing what he quoted you? I'm thinking of having him do makeup/hair for myself, my bridal party, Mom and MIL. With the  amount of money these resorts make, you'd think they would give us some freebies. huh.gif The joys of wedding planning!

Definitly ask, get everything is writing girl!  LOL

It seems that SpaAzul has pretty good reviews.  When I was planning on using them I was thinking about brining in my own makeup and just having them put it on for me, only because I wanted higher quality makeup in the heat and everything water proof, haha.  Any pictures that I've seen the brides that have used them looked great, I don't think there is too  much to worry about!

Fernando is $350 for bride hair and makeup, that is what he quoted me a couple months back so it could have changed.  I like the idea of him coming to us and I'm sitting in the A/C in my room and not running around.  He isn't cheap and either is the vendor fee, I'm hoping the day off he's able to come without me getting charged the vendor fee like other brides.  I can only hope, haha.

Jen - thanks for letting me know. I had no idea that I would need to purchase additional makeup. WOW! I agree- rather spend that money on something else. I'll definitely check out Fernando. Are you having him do your wedding parties makeup and hair? Have you set up a trial with Fernando yet? I'd love to see pics if he has. cheers.gif

I am going to take a risk and not do a trial. I might go to the MAC counter here to get some inspiration and take that to him. I am running out of time though! I am getting married on the 18th so I'll be sure to post some hair and make-up pics when I get home.

Hmm, I definitely to sit down and calculate all this and see if I should change my package or not!

Is anyone making their photographer a guest for the wedding? I am thinking about doing this, but I am nervous that I could still get hit with the $350 fee. Not sure how they would handle that if I just listed him as a guest. I just think it is unfair to have to pay such a high fee when their photographer is not good. I don't mind making him a guest, just not sure if I will get caught for it...haha.

Hi Risa,

Some brides have luck with this and some don't.....

The problem you'll encounter will be that to qualify as a guest they must be an overnight guest at the resorts.....It depends on what WC you get most of the time though. :) If you were to get caught the worst that would happen is they would just make you pay for them.

Not sure if that helps or not, but I hope so!

Yes I boked Fernando! :) I have heard great reviews about him and he has been excellent to work with over the phone/email. He is pricey but I think it will be worth it, as my hair/makeup is something I don't want to have to worry about. You can PM me if you need anything, I'm more than happy to help!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
