ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

I am back from my wedding!! You ladies have NOTHING to worry about. My wedding was fantastic and I have zero compliants. I will post a review soon!Lilia was AMAZING so you don't have to worry if you have her.

here are some teasers from my photog...if you have the reception in the central garden, it will be BEAUTIFUL. even though it was wide open to people walking by, we did not get bothered by other people except a wedding crasher but we kicked him out. He just wanted to get on the fun too!!

Loved loved the Royal! It's so worth to stay there instead of Gran Porto.

Thanks Dianep for the sash's help :)

That is sad that the WC's are out of a job but hopefully they kept the good ones and this will all be for the better.

LisaDSO - November gets very cool at night. You sure can wear a heavier dress. This past November I was in jeans and a sweater at night. It cools down very fast after 6pm to be about 70 degrees.

Lady_Di welcome back!!!! can't wait to see your review you looked amazing!!!

Hi Steph,

I am not a past bride yet :) but here's my advice based on past brides reviews,

1. I think you could totally do your own aisle runner. It does get windy but you could do something cool like put shells on it if your worried it might fly away. I saw a picture of a past Royal bride with her own and it was not held down by anything.

2. I cant remember who but someone who recently had their wedding had blue petals. The resort will definitely take care of those right after the ceremony. I am not sure how many people you are having but I was told 5 bags is good.

3. I have heard from so many brides its totally worth it. You want to be able to relax and also have all your other guests have fun. This way there is no worries and the music just keeps going.

4. It does start right after and your timing is perfect. I was told ceremony is half an hour so till 4:30, than hour cocktail till 5:30 and than everyone heads to the reception. In between getting down with the ceremony and heading to your reception site and getting settled you were surely kill 30 minutes in between.

5. Again this does depend on the amount of people but usually anywhere from an hour to an hour and half also depending on speeches, cake etc..

6. FI was thinking of doing this and we got info through our TA Jill. If FI decided to do we were planning on booking before we left just so we don't have to worry about anything once we are there.

7. Resort is a huge rip off!! Def book before, this will give you peace of mind to. In the Gran Porto there is a Best Day Travels but I found them expensive. The only thing I recommend waiting for is you want to go to Coco Bongo because when we were down there in Nov we got great deals.

8. I think this is a good idea. Get the WC to bring you over a drink and recollect. 15 20 minutes is all you need.

9. Not sure about this one at all sad.gif

Sorry this was just my opinion I hope it helps. One week!!!!! that is so exciting. Just remember that every bride has said everything works out just fine.

Questions for past brides.......

1. Did anyone bring their own aisle runner? If so what did you do to hold it down? Zulma makes it sound impossible, that it still "flies away" but she will try and help me with it. Suggestions?!

2. Did anyone bring their own petals for the aisle? Were they fake? Did you have to pick them back up after or does the resort do that? How many did you bring?

3. Trying to decide if I should pay the $80 to have a resort staff run my IPOD at the reception. Did anyone not do a DJ? Do you have suggestions on if this is worth it?

4. DO they start the cocktail hour imediately following the ceremony? But then I am thinking there is time between the cocktail hour and the reception if it is not at the top of the hour.... My ceremony is at 4pm, then cocktail and then reception at 6pm.

5. How long does it take to get through dinner? 3 course.

6. Has anyone done the deep sea fishing trip? If so did you book before you left home? Who did you use?

7. Is it cheaper to book excursions before we leave online or at the resort? I don't want to get ripped off at the resort.

8. My photographer suggested a "break" right before the ceremony after our first look and couples pictures, to cool off and de-sweat before the ceremony... think this is a good idea? 20 mins good?

9. Is the online check in working again? Anyone know?
Hi Stephanie,

I can answer some of your questions so here goes!

1. I would totally skip the isle runner. Save the expense and hassle. If you are getting married at the gazebo, the flagstones there are so pretty you don't really need a runner.

2. The florist provided real petals for the last wedding we were at there (which the flower girls tossed from little sombreros held by the string, so cute!) I would check with the resort and see if they can provide petals. Just one less thing to take with you.

3. Unless you want to give one of your guests a job to do (i.e. run the ipod for the whole evening) it might just be easier to pay the fee. However, if all you are going to do is turn it on and go, with maybe a break for the toasts and cake, then I would just ask one of the groomsmen to take charge.

4. You might want to check with your wc on that. Last time were were there we had a one hour break in between the end of the ceremony and cocktail hour (wouldn't recommend that!). The cocktail hour did last one hour and dinner started on time.

5. The courses are served at approximately 1/2 hour intervals. For our last wedding, the reception began at 6:30, apps were served at about 7:00, main course at 7:30 and dessert at 8:00.

6. Not sure about the deep sea fishing. Would HIGHLY recommend Catamaya Catamaran Sailing Cruises and Charters Riviera Maya, Mexico out of Puerto Aventuras if you are looking for a snorkel/sailing experience. Totally amazing experience!

7. Book online before you go! You can usually catch a break.

8. Yes!! Absolutely take a break and 20 minutes should be fine. You will want to freshen hair and makeup, plus take a bathroom break before all the festivities begin.

9. Not sure about the online check in.

Hope that helps! :)

I'm def going to have all my emails handy when I get there! She also told me my onsite WC will be Michel but she didn't know if I would be working with her from now or if I will be with someone else until my wedding was closer. Julie also said she just found out as well. I'm a little sad for them knowing that they will be losing their job; hopefully they have other things lined up.

Has anyone worked with Michel yet?

I am working with Michel now and she seems great so far!!

OMG, I can't believe we are leaving in one week! Are any of the brides still around that are going to be there the same time as me? June 9-17? I want to say Hi if I see you guys! I know there are 2 or 3!
We arrive on the 14 and will be there until the 21. I will definitely look for you!

If you do not want to pay the 80$ for someone to tend to your ipod... on your play list on Itunes.. go to edit, preferences, playback, and click crossfade.. you can set it to how you soon you want the songs to come in.. this eliminates the ackward silence between songs while waiting for someone to switch the song.. this is what we are doing for the reception and dinner.. i want someone working my ipod for the ceremony though.

I really want a Maggie Sottero chiffon dress, but the only one they carry around here is the Reese (think Lynnie's dress), and of course it was 2 sizes too small. Sigh.

I did find a Maggie that I liked but it was heavy.

That reminds me....

Jessica,
what are nights like in playa in November? Could i get away with wearing a heavier dress then (are the nights cool or warm?)
i had a full satin dress in may and it was just fine. my advice would be to just find a dress you love and not worry about the weather too much. if you feel good in what you're wearing, you'll be glowing and the weather just won't matter! good luck to you!

for the dinner, it seemed as though they just let us go at our own pace. we had a nice leisurly dinner, but i have absolutely no idea of how long it took! i was completely oblivious to the passing of time. we had a 3 hour reception (also with 3 courses). we had plenty of time to sit around and talk and a few people danced a little bit. if you have a lively crowd who want to dance for a while, you might want to consider extending your time by an hour.

i just had a friend of mine run the ipod for our service. i wrote out a short list of playlists for pre/postlude and the songs for the service. and for the reception, we just let the ipod do its thing and it was absolutely fine!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
