Also, I am thinking of doing a cocktail welcome get together and I wanted to see what restaurant any of you may suggest at the Gran Porto? Also we will have about 26 guests, do I need to reserve a restaurant at the Gran for a friday night deal or can we just show up? I really dont want to have to pay obviously but if its just going to be a casual meet and greet do I still need to reserve for that amount of people? Also, do I need to contact the Gran to do that b/c I cant get any response from Michel at the Royal?

One more question... If I decide to hire an outside photog for our Royal PDC wedding and I pay for a room for them to stay over night, am I still responsible to pay the outside vendor fee since they will be guests of the hotel??

Thank you all!!!!!
most of the picture so far were just done by friends and family. but the picture of us out on the pier with the wave crashing was our photographer. i flew somone in from home (MN). we are waiting for his pics, but he has sent a few teasers. i can give you his info if you want it...

everyone says il pescatore is their favorite, but in all cases, we found it just... fine. we were consistently impressed with the food at maria's though. maria's would be my suggestion for sure! they do consider it a private party (and charge you) to set it up. we went in with a group of about 12 and they were able to accomodate us after a wait...

One other question.... sorry...

Should you bring beach towels from home or does the Royal provide plenty of towels to use on the beach and at the pool?

Thanks! We leave 2 weeks from today!
we ended up doing the tres leches cake and it was delicious! i would recommend it!

for our entree (we had the classic package) we had the beef tournedo and the whatever-they-call-it-snapper. my beef was so-so but the guests said theirs was tender and delicious. a couple of the guests raved about the snapper. the chocolate shell was interesting and tasty, i would go with that one for dessert.

you don't need towels from home at all. the ones at the royal are a good size and are plentiful (except for the one time when they were out of them for about 20 minutes, but it was no big deal).

May Brides- So happy your time at the royal was so wonderful and your weddings went so smoothly!

They definitely have parasols! Pink and Turqouis for sure. I actually have one that is for sale so you can get an idea of the look. They do say Playa Del Carmen on them which is perfect! It is listed under Parasol...

Cake I picked the tres leches and it was unbelievable. Nobody really wanted to eat it though because they feed you so much during dinner and dessert. The food was so good that everyone ate it all and then left no room for cake. Those who did try it, including myself, loved it though. They said as long as you aren't doing a multi layered cake then it won't melt at all, and it didn't. It was outside for at least an hour and didn't move.

The spring salad with goat cheese was surprisingly good. If you aren't a fan of goat cheese though then I would stay away from it because it is overpowering. The beef was delicious (going off of the luxury menu). It was very large and cooked perfectly! So yummy!!! The asparagus mint soup (princess soup) so delicious as well. I was actually surprised by this. It seemed like most people ate all of theirs. The dessert was the cheesecake with chocolate, and it was devine! I loved every last bit! One of my bridesmaids was so impressed that she ordered it for roomservice every day after that.

They provide SO MANY beach towels. The only plus to giving everyone one is that when you lay them out on the chairs yours is distinct and they can't steal your chair. If I were to do it differently I wouldn't have brought them. Instead what I saw was useful was thermal mugs. I know weird but their drinks seriously melt so fast from being in the sun, that those who were smart and brought their own did not have this problem at all! Also useful was the room key and tip holders. I got the ones that you could zip and put those wrist coils on them and everyone loved them. Very useful!

Oh no!!!!!
Did you check in your trash folder? Also, did you do a search on your computer for the file? Go to Start and then Search, then files or folders. If it was once on there it couldn't just disappear. Even if you did accidentally trash it, then you would find it in the trash bin icon.

LOL! I can't believe she is like that! They are really strict at The Royal about people from the Gran coming in, but if they say the wedding party they are with then they are allowed to come 30 minutes prior to the event.

A surprise that I didn't know and found out once I was there was that Zulma told me I could have 3 people from the Gran or whoever I chose to come into my room on the wedding day 3 HOURS BEFORE THE WEDDING!
Whathuh.gif That was something that would have been useful prior to me being there! I was so relieved though because my dad was at the other resort. So for you brides that have special people at the other resort...know that this is allowed!

That's what I think, it HAS to be somewhere. I think Kenny may have deleted the folder not knowing it's EXTREME importance! I have a mac so I figured it would be stored somewhere. I checked the recycle bin, did a search, UGH! I'm giong to find that dang thing though. And when I do I'm BACKING IT UP!

Jess that's a good idea! If I can't find it I'm going to have the Geek Squad come over. This is life or death! LOL.

We didn't set any 'restore' points and I'm kicking myself! I'm going to try tonight though.

O.M.G. I don't know what to tell you. That sucks so bad! Do you still have contract/emails in your emails??
I have the contracts in my email so that was good. It was just all the pictures, and my own notes that I don't think I can ever re-create perfectly. Ugh.

Thanks for all the concerns ladies! My fiance didn't understand the big deal!

One more day Lady Di! Who else is getting married this weekend?

I'm back!!!! We had a wonderful wedding and a great day too! Yay for no rain on the 15th! Sorry to anyone else who did have rain - we saw many brides who got rained out boo! I finally got on here - I've had to catch up at work before I could do anything remotely fun. Our wedding was great - some bumps in the road but I'll do a review hopefully later on tonight (American Idol finale is tonight, so we'll see how far I get).

Bridetobe1515 - I think that you were in the chair right next to me getting your hair done for the wedding!! I was a bit too shy to ask embarrest.gif in fact I think your wedding was right before mine in the gazebo (right?) my wedding coordinator was saying how they had to get all the blue petals up before we got there, LOL!!

Also I don't know which one of you guys it was, but I could swear that there was someone waving and yelling during our ceremonyhuh.gif Was one of you in a balcony room near the gazebo?? I told my husband (lol...I love typing that) that maybe it was one of my online buddies!

Here's a montage that my photographer made so you guys can get a sneak peak at our welcome dinner (at Alux), wedding and trash the dress.

Ok... now I'm having second thoughts about my cake. I REALLY wanted Tres Leches cake, but didn't order it being that we were mid June and I figured the poor thing wouldn't stand a chance. Now that all of you are saying that it could work, I want it. sad.gif I already sent in my final paperwork and spent 180$ on a "couture" cake! Think they would refund the money if I decided to do a standard Tres Leches? Yeah, i don't think they would.

The brides who just returned.. any advice as to where to take pictures? We are bringing a photog from home and she isn't familiar with the place so any suggestions would be welcome. We don't want to travel too far from the resort.

Our cake was 2 tiers - one chocolate with raspberries and the other chocolate with coconut and take it from me (I'm a cake decorator), the cake tasted fantastic, so if you want Tres Leche cake, I'm sure they'll do it for you. I was one of the brides that didn't have anything filled out prior nor had my balance paid and was super stressed about it, but as soon as you get there, they'll work with you.

As for pics - iI brought my own photographer and we were in the same situation - plus we wanted to get right to partying, so we took pics at the hotel. The backgrounds of the ocean and even the hotel itself was really beautiful in my opinion. You can see a quick montage in my previous post.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
