This is EXACTLY what happened to me back in January (after booking in Sept)!! I know how you feel and it totally sux! I would definitely contact corporate AND the resort WC's. Let us know if you need emails for them! Just so you know the resort WC's will do everything in their power to make it up to you. They have been sooooo nice to me since this happened. I have gotten a lot of free/discounted amenities for my wedding to make up for it. Work your magic girl and everything will work out in the end!!

Let us know if you need any help!

Ladies who are wondering. . . I was told by the resort WC's that they will NOT cancel weddings if you have not paid yet and that it is perfectly fine to pay once you get down there. IMO you should still try to get an invoice to find any problems :)

3 DAYS TIL WE LEAVE!!!!!

Hi Ladies,

Back from our wedding, it was all wonderful in the end but I definitely had the Charlotte & Harry wedding from SATC (ie: the more things that go wrong the better the marriage) I did not have the "perfect" week that most brides describe on here but let me reiterate when you are walking down the aisle NONE of it matters so try not to stress like I did and just enjoy everything. Here is where we had issues (maybe you can learn from this: 1) didn't arrive before our 48 guests so we were trying to run around and get wedding stuff done and were constantly being stopped by our guests & having people calling our room wondering what the plans were, etc. (this got to be pretty frustrating after awhile!) 2) Weather, weather, damn the weather. We arrived the 24th & had a catamaran cruise planned for the 25th for our guests, it was cancelled due to rough seas so we were running around like chickens with our heads cut off trying to find something else for 50 people & it turns out the catmaran company tried to reach us the next morning to let us know we could do the cruise then but the hotel said we weren't staying there (WTF?) so the tour company sent a van anyways and I just got ahold of him when he was almost to our hotel and frantically told him I could not get all our 50 guests together in 10 min. to go on this boat cruise. We ended up paying for a private event rehearsal dinner for all our guests int the hotel garden instead, which was lovely. But my advice is have a backup plan ahead of time! By the way paradise catamarans is awesome if you are looking for a company, they refunded us every last cent no problem. 3) If you are doing a legal wedding make sure you bring you & your fiancee's passports & tourist cards to your first WC meeting plus your 4 witnesses & their passports & tourist cards (our WC did not tell us this and we had to spend half the day tracking down our witnesses for paperwork) that being said besides that annoyance it was super easy to get married legally down there if you have never been married before. 4)Wedding day weather: it was raining all morning but brightening up at times. Denys (our WC) called me at 1230pm pushing me to move our entire wedding inside (the whole thing was supposed to be on the beach), I begged her for more time as our ceremony wasn't until 6pm, reception at 8pm, she only gave me till' 130pm and then kinda forced me into moving it inside. But by 2pm it was PAINFULLY sunny outside, we were doing our pics and the whole time I was fuming that our wedding was going to be inside now. So my MOH spent an hour on the phone with Denys & the manger and they were wanting to charge us another $ 500 to move the wedding outside and then wanted us to sign a $2500 deposit in case of rain. It was so stressful & back & forth so I said just leave it inside but then changed my mind again (the whole point of getting married in Mexico was the beach!!) and decided to do the ceremony & cocktail hour outside and the reception inside. Right after we signed the deposit it started clouding over again and looked like t was going to rain. Long story short after alot of back & forth: we did the ceremony outside, beautiful and barefoot on the beach, it was AMAZING despite all the BS. We then rushed the guests inside (with the $2500 equipment) and had some cocktails in the lobby and then moved to the ballroom for the remainder of the cocktail hour & reception. Ladies, after all that it didn't even rain!!!! I recommend if you really want an outdoor wedding don't let them bully you into making up your mind so early. The food at the cocktail hour was pretty good, we just went with the included cold canapes. Reception food: We had the shrimp salad appy, so good! Also the princess cream soup was amazing. The seafood stuffed chicken was dry and not great & the cheesecake was ok. We had chocolate wedding cake with vanilla icing, very yummy! On top of those things that went wrong, we had a guest break her arm & require surgery the day before our wdding ( but she nade it for the big day!) my MOH ripped up my dress zipper too fast and my mom thought she was going to have to cut & resew it but after 20 min of adjusting we fixed it and I had a guest high on drugs & behaving inappropriately the whole time, also about 10 of our guests & my fiancee and I had stomach issues the day before and day of the wedding, I suggest ducoral(?) the people that had taken it didn't get sick. But despite all that it was truly amazing, if all this can go wrong and I can still have a great day, you ladies have nothing to worry about! Denys the WC did annoy me on the day with the weather issue but I understand where she was coming from & besides that she was great. She organized everyone on the day and did an amazing job setting up our decorations. The hotel is so beautiful and for the most part the staff & food was great. We upgraded to the presidential suite for our last 3 nights and it was definitely worth it! We also went to tulum for a honeymoon for 5 nights after our week at the Royal, which if you can afford to do I highly recommend, it was a tiring week and it was so nice to have some time alone. Hope that this doesn't scare anyone, in the end it all turned out beautifully and I wouldn't change a thing. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. I wish all of you the best, enjoy it, it goes by way too fast!

Oh, also none of the appointments for hair, nails or makeup that Angie was supposed to book for me were booked (surprise, surprise) So I would check with the spa as soon as you get there, we were able to make all the appointments except one, no problem. Also 2 of my bridesmaids ended up with the WORST hair styles ever, they looked like people from star trek, so hilarious, luckily my brother's GF is a hairdresser, she did my hair and fixed theirs. But 3 of my BM's had great hair. So make sure you bring lots of pics to be clear and if you have anyone that speaks spanish to translate that would definitely help!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
