ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

i have angie. i'm glad to hear that she is responsive to some of you, but wish she would get back to me! i am just under two months out now. i sent an e-mail with several questions a week and a half ago (i want to get all the responses in writing) and then checked in with her again just a couple days ago (a full week after my first message) and have had no response. from what everyone is saying here, i should now be in contact with a coordinator in mexico. hope that happens soon, since i hear that they are actually responsive and helpful! it would be nice to be able to have this wedding planned instead of having so many questions hanging out there! hope you ladies are having better luck than i am!

Hi everyone. I have been reading this for some time now and have only barely made a dent in all the posts. Getting married May 31 2010 at 4pm at the Royal PdC. Feeling very frustrated and questioning my decision to choose Real Resorts.

1) Julia & others - doesn't it seem weird you have to choose only 1 option from each course? How likely is it everyone will want to eat the same thing? I think this is BS, it just seems ridiculous. I am waiting for a response from them after requesting more options. We are doing the Mayan wedding, the 1 page menu we were given is different than the other ones I have seen and not that appetizing actually (caviar cream sauce? yuck! blueberry sauce on a salad - also yuck!). Can any other brides confirm that they served only 1 dish at their reception? How did that work for you?

2) Wedding Coordinators - agreed that things at the MI office are completely messed up, with horrible service. Worked with one, she left and no-one told us, practically had to beg to get a new one assigned. We now have "Aja" who has not been that pleasant. I get the feeling she is young and overwhelmed; she seems to have no empathy for an nervous bride. This alone would make me discourage others from choosing a Real Resort for a wedding.

3) We are doing the Mayan ceremony, which I have not seen anyone post about. We picked it because we are not religious but like the Mayan wedding tradition (standing in a circle, being blessed by nature, etc). Don't have a good sense for how the ceremony will flow however - if there is a time for exchanging vows, participation of guests, language). Also curious how authentic our 'Shaman' will be; the "mayan warriors" look pretty hokey if you ask me (not getting them), but hopefully the Shaman IS a traditional healer/leader. If anyway has had this wedding or been to one, would love to hear from you.

Thanks to all for your great posts. Looking forward to more! :) Lisa

I have Aja as a WC and have had NO complaints with her. She has been extremely quick and thorough with her responses. Not sure what's going on there. From what I understand you can choose two entree's, but you then have to have some sort of place card on the table indicating who is eating what.

Good Luck! I wonder how it works if they are booked up and your guests have to stay at the Gran. Do you have to pay the extra costs?

She was mine too. How can they not contact the brides she was working with! So what are we suppose to do now? Call them so we can be re-assigned a new WC?

Why is it that the brides getting married at REAL resorts have to constantly do the job of the Michigan WCshuh.gif This is BS!!

diane, you get contacted by the Mexican WCs two weeks before your wedding, not two months. THat's what my WC told me.
They told my friend she left for family reasons. Of course they'd never say for DWI if that's true.

I'm trying to get her to join this board so she can share her planning with everyone but she's in her last semester of grad school IE no life haha! I can communicate thru her!

1. It will be waaaay easier to get the GPR guests to the wedding, and then everyone can walk over together to the Royal garden for the reception so they don't get harrassed by security since they'll know its a wedding party.
2. Jesmcan's review made it sound like just what we were looking for smaller and private. I, also, liked that it didn't have as much greenery around it as the Royal. If you're having a big wedding, I don't think the GPR gazebo will be the best for you.
3. I'm kinda weird and not super enthused about everyone watching me as I walk to the aisle, and the GPR gazebo has a way shorter walking distance than the Royal gazebo from what I can tell from the pics.

Look at the bottom right of both of the links below and you can see the gazebo at both & which one you like better

Thanks for posting these links, I had never seen these. Now I have a lot to think about. iIdefinitely think I like the gazebo at the Gran better, just not sure if it's available. Also, all of my guests are staying at the Royal. I guess that would be a bit difficult to haul them all over there. sad.gif

on the food, there is a couple of reviews on it...i guess you have to go back in the thread and find it. it was jesmcan and other bride, i can't remember.

it is frustrating that they don't let the brides know! Kimberely was my WC and I didn't know. I had to contact Carol and she told me that i was going to be assigned soon. I guess Suzanna's brides will be assigned soon.

Despite all this drama, i am happy with my WC. She has been helpful and nice!

now, i am nervous about all of my gran and non resort guests coming to my wedding...i was told that they won't have a problem attending my wedding. i'm getting married on the beach. i am really hoping that there won't be too many people on the beach. i can't change my ceremony to another location and that sucks. sad.gif the gazebo is becoming more appealing to me.

lady di, i'm currently signed up for the beach but am wondering about switching to the gazebo too!

but when i envisioned a beach wedding, i pictured our feet in the sand with the water right behind us, a white arch overhead, etc. so that's what keeps me with the original beachfront - it's as perfect as the picture in my head!

but there is definitely something pretty and romanic about the flowing white fabric of the decorated gazebos!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
