How long did you date before enagaged?

Recommended Posts

I possibly win for shortest relationship prior to becoming engagedblush2.gif...he proposed 4 months into our relationship. Here's a bit more of an explanation, though...but I am going to make this as short as possible. I dated his best friend for nearly 5 years, he dated my (former) best friend for 2--and btw, we ended our friendship well before DF & I ever hooked up. Anyway, my 5 year relationship ended when I went away to college, but we remained friends...he still wanted us to get back together, get married someday, etc. etc. but I wanted to take some time off while I was in school. He said something about proposing to me one night, then two nights later I find out he took his life. 11 months later, some way or another his best friend & I (by fate, I believe) ended up talking together until 7am after a party got busted one night. I was still in college & "new guy" (DF) already had a job & home a couple hundred miles away, so we only saw each other here & there--we spent hours on the phone each night, though. Okay, so 2 weeks into it he dropped the L-bomb & said he just couldn't help himself because he truly already knew he did. A month into it, he was already starting conversations about weddings over dinner (which was when we discussed DWs!) and just 2 months into it, we found out we were pregnant :)...which brings us to 4 months into it & his proposal! It was a complete surprise, still, even though there was a baby in the picture & we both knew & promised we'd end up together forever, regardless.

I guess we moved along faster, not only because of our pregnancy, but because we didn't have to go through the time it takes to "get to know each other" and we already knew each other's dating histories inside and out, so there you have it! Do I win? LOL

We got engaged after about a year and a half. will be 2 1/2 when we get married.

We also got lucky and knew each other through my cousin so we really didn't need any time for the "getting to know each other" either.

Have to make a comment thought, my friends got married last year and they had been together 13 years!!!!! through highschool and college, so I remember that wedding being so special everyone was like, "finally!" :)

Funny you say that...it has crossed my mind before that I could almost write a book about my life. There are several other aspects of my life that are kind of crazy/"movie-worthy"..lol but I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who could say the same thing about their personal experiences :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
