I think the key is using general street smarts and also going around with the right person. More than 1 person approached us and offered to take us around but we said no until we met someone whose vibe we liked.

We were in people's homes, backyards, cars, etc. and all in places where there weren't tourists for miles. We came across people whose patois was so thick we would never have made it alone, so that's where our guy came in handy! People thought DH was Jamaican until he spoke...haha Have fun, don't be afraid to go out but if you are going into people's neighborhoods go with a local, it will make things much easier :)

Here are some pics of our off-site adventure, I have tons more if you like:

@ the healing spring (yes my hand is in the fire, it went up my leg & didn't burn...it was crazy!)

Neighborhood kids that followed us as far as they were allowed...lol:

Karen, I think most of the hotels let you have a private dinner on the beach, they set up these little canopies and have a candle lit path, I saw people do it every night we were there (we stayed at Couples) and it was so beautiful.

Also I am sure someone else mentioned it but don't forget to go to Dunn's River Falls, its so cool to climb a waterfall.

It has gone quick, hasn't it? It was a little over a year ago when I signed up here but if feels like so much longer than that.

I have spent most of the morning in trip planner mode. Finding RIU forums, downloading reggae/ragga/ska music, looking at photos, reading reviews and all that good stuff. I woke up thinking about Jamaica today. I am just too too excited.

I love your idea Jamy! That would be real cool to have someone show us around and get to places we otherwise would not find. That's right up our alley.

Did someone say rum cream? MMMMMM....those puppies go down smooth in the hot Jamaican sun! (and they pack a punch!)

Rum Cream sounds so yummy!!!! Thanks for letting me know Christa!

Jamy, sound like you and DH have the same traveling tastes that we have. I really love learning about and experiancing other cultures. And it's hard to do that if you stay in the confines of the resort. As weird as this may sound, I love it when Jay and I are the only Americans around. As much as i love my country, it's cool to "escape" America for a bit. I reallly wanted to get another country in before any little ones come along.

Anyone ever got to Bob Marley's house in 9 mile? Is it worth the trip?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
