Question, Questions, Questions

Recommended Posts

I have a few questions and I didn't know where it would be best to post all my questions. I am thinking of getting married in the Riviera Maya this October. I really want to do El Dorado but my fiance's friends have kids. We are also thinking of having a small church ceremony and a coctails and hors d'oeuvre party for those who can't make it. So that way we can have it at El Dorado. My questions are... Is there a good chance of a hurricane in October, does anyone know of any local photographers in the RM, does anyone have any recommendations of a travel agent in Chicago or will it be cheaper if I go through travelocity and contact the hotel for the wedding coordinator? So many questions... I would greatly appreciate and input.

RM is gorgeous! The El Dorado is gorgeous! That being said a lot of your FI's friends probably won't be able to come b/c they can't bring their kids. But in all honesty a lot of them probably wouldn't have come anyway b/c it gets pricey when you are booking vacations for your entire family. I don't know of any photographers in RM specifically but I know there is a thread with photogs in that area. Also, Jonathan Thrasher and Leigh Miller (who are on this board) specialize in going to any locale you want and their work is stunning. Plus they are both very nice and would be great to work with. Also, I highly recommend using Tammy (the host) as Tammy M. suggested. She is great to work with and will probably get you a better deal than most TA's would. Plus she had a destination wedding herself so she knows all the little intricate details that go into planning one. Good luck and let us know if there is anything you need help with.

I've heard El Dorado is gorgeous! That's where I'm honeymooning. You will find a ton of information on this sight regarding traveling photographers and RM photographers. As well as info on El Dorado. But as everyone else has said, Tammy(host) is great to work with, you would do well to contact her first, and she will be able to answer most of your questions.

Thank you so much for the advice. I really don't want to wait till May to get married but I'm afraid that a hurrican will hit either before or during our stay. I also want a professional photographer but the traveling photographers can get extremly expensive. Since we plan on getting married so soon, our budget is a bit on the tighter side.

Hi, I am getting married at the EDR in March and while I would recommend the resort to anyone, there are a couple of points I thought you should know.

The first as you have heard is that children aren't allowed (it's over 18 I think)

The second is that the EDR doesn't allow outside photographers unless they are a guest at the resort! Bummer I know!

Hope this helps let me know if you need any other questions answered (if I can!!)

As the girls have said Tammy(host) is really helpful and could probably help you alot.

  • 1 month later...

That really sucks they don't allow outside photogs...neither does the Barcelo

sad.gif I was really looking forward to using Claudia Rodriguez

I know the EDR does free weddings and that's a big bonus - but would switching resorts be an option at all? Our wedding package is only $1700 which is great for what it includes and it's a total kid friendly resort (kid's club, kid's waterpark, etc) but it's not PACKED with kids which is nice!

Hello,

My company has to track hurricanes.

Yes, October is a spotty month. The hurricane season traditionally ends the end of November, but your risk decreases around the second week of November. If there is a big reason why it has to be in October, make it as late in the month as possible.

Here is an article - this is relative to Florida, but you might want to check these out: Hurricane 2003: October is scariest month for hurricanes

Hurricane timeline: 1990 to 2000: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Most important - the national hurricane center has a ton of information including this section that allows you to search activity by month. Here's 2006 activity, but they have it for decades back: 2006 Tropical Cyclone Monthly Summary

Also, remember that it's not just hurricanes to consider but tropical storms as well. Should you decide to move forward with October, really go through your contracts and have them specify what they will/won't refund and what qualifies as a refundable occurrence (tropical storm of what magnitude). Also, have a rain contingency plan.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
