Where do I start?!?

Hi I'm a newbie in need of some help! I've always wanted a destination wedding, but never sure where? The more I look the more confused I get!

Where did you guys start? Did you always have a certain place in mind? Did a Travel Agent help you?

I want the wedding to be small....my parents, his parents, a couple friends....I want the location to be spectacular (of course!), perferably on a beach, and I want a place we can all have fun (a golf course nearby would make a lot of us happy). Also affordable. Is this too much to ask?

I always had my hopes set on Hawaii, but all I hear is how expensive it will be. Plus I don't know how the long plane ride will be on our son..which will probably be around 1 or 1 1/2 when we do this.

Can you guys please give me some good ideas? Any sites that list packages, so I can get an idea of how much this will be? Thanks so much for the help!!!

Welcome Megan. Picking the location was the hardest part for me by far so I can feel your frustration. I have never been to Hawaii so I can't vouch for that but have you considered Mexico? It is still relatively easy and inexpensive to get to, especially from the Midwest, and there are so many different price range of places to fit any budget. If you don't want to travel outside the US, have you looked into Florida or California?

Have you picked your date yet?

I always wanted to get married in Bora Bora, but I knew a lot of people wouldn't be able to go and I was trying to keep it reasonable for them. Then I narrow it down to Mexico, because it was close and more affordable . Hawaii is absolutely gorgeous, but it is at least a 7 hour flight. The forum is wonderful and will give you a ton of ideas and locations. Good luck and welcome.

I pretty much always knew that if we had a destination wedding it would be in Charleston, it's my family's second home. We've been vacationing there almost every summer since I was 12. But I found it relatively simple to plan, that might be because I am familiar with the location but once you get the ball rolling you can really just roll with it.

I am currently the only bride on here getting married in Charleston and if you've never been it's a beautiful place. Golf, Beach, City, great food..........everything right there. And the best part is it is HALF the price of having our wedding in Philadelphia. I'm getting everything x2 than I would at home.

I think you can't go wrong choosing to have a destination wedding, you just have to find the right place. There are so many girls here to help you, lots of girls getting married in the Islands and Mexico and some in Hawaii too. I'm we can all help you with any questions you might have.

I hope this helped!

You've already given me some good ideas! I have thought about Florida...also the Sandals Resort.

I've never thought of Mexico as a wedding destination...hmm.

Also I've always heard good things about South Carolina. My dad's been there several times and always mentions how gorgeous it is.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
