We have been together for almost 8 years so there doesn't seem to be many things left that haven't been discussed and we are extremely open with each other so it's not like I feel like we absolutley have to get counseling but I don't think it can hurt. I know there are non-church counseling options, but I don't want to do that. Just wondering what other people are doing....
I think you are in great area the ATL to locate a church for pre-marital counseling. You have options for a group session and private. Start with friends or family to refer you to someone. My FI have done group premarital and private session at our church in Dallas. I highly suggest pre-marital counseling. Good Luck

A little late in the post but we didn't do pre-marital counseling but we did have to meet with a sponser couple prior to our wedding. We are actually going right now and it has been awesome. I think it is great to hear another couples point of view and it has been a great experience so far! Good Luck!

How does a sponsor couple work? I've never heard of that.

It is through our church - sorry I forgot to mention that - Our priest set it up for us - it is very non structured and totally relaxed atmosphere. I know you said you were doing something that doesn't necesarily deal with a church but it is a really awesome thing - I mean we get input from our friends on certain things but they are always one-sided kind of - like either they are FI's friends or mine - so this way it is a 3rd party point of view ya know??

I'm super late but I think premarital counseling is something you will do and never forget. I was with FI for 8 years when we did ours and we still learned new things, it surprised the hell out of us! Made us laugh, made us cry. I wrote more about it in the Catholic counseling thread but basically it is a beautiful thing to learn that after so many years you can still grow as a couple.

We both were apprehensive because we aren't religious (but spiritual) but the place we went was very liberal so there was no down-talk or holier-than-thou stuff going on. Find a place you like and do it..then let us know what you think :)

Very cool. We actually make it point not to get advice or input from our family and friends b/c like you said, it's always one-sided, so a 3rd party that's totally neutral would be great. I would prefer to do something thru a church it's just that both of our churches are an hour away and we both work a 9-5 and have our own businesses on the side so our free time is very limited. We are definitely going to see what we can find though.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
