What time is your ceremony?

I think the sun sets at different times during different times of the year. I am also getting married in Nov in Riviera Maya and we are having ours at 4. WC said the sun will set at 5. Do you know how long your ceremony is? Maybe that can help determine the time to start.

It all depends on

 

a) How important photos are to you (important or extremely important)

 

Whether you are willing to do photos before the ceremony

 

Photos are extremely important to me (that's why I'm brining a photographer with me to have her services all day, plus other photos of the week!) and I didn't want to see my FH in my dress before the ceremony, so we are only doing shots alone and me with my bridesmaids and FH with his family before. We have the ceremony starting 3 hours before sunset (ceremony 4pm, sunset 7pm, although I just learned that daylight savings time doesn't start till a few days later and the sunset is actually 6pm, so I'm REALLY hoping to be able to move my ceremony to 3pm).

 

You have to keep in mind that your ceremony might start 15-30 minutes late. Also, sunset photos are nice, but dark, so I know I wanted lots of time for photos in full daylight. So if my ceremony starts 30 minutes late, lasts 15 minutes, then 15 minute champagne toast, that leaves us 1.5 hours for photo before it starts to get dark (I'm guessing iit starts to get dark half an hour before sunset), which I figure will be divided about half an hour for family photos and one hour just us. When you break it all done that way it doesn't sound like that much time, and that's with a ceremony 3 hours before sunset!

In May, the sun sets around 7:15pm, so we're having ours at 5pm. But we are doing pictures before and after the ceremony. Our before ceremony pictures will just be the two of us and will be done around town, to get some architectural shots, which I love. Then after the ceremony, we'll do pics with family and friends on the beach and then just the two of us on the beach. Our reception is at 8pm.

That actually is the norm! 3-4 ceremony, 330/5 pics, 5-6 maybe do first dances and toasts, then dinner at 530/6, if you want to push everything back and start the ceremony late, just arrange to see eachother before and do pics then, then during your cocktail hour you can actually relax and visit!

ours is at 630 with sunset around 730 so we hope to get picture with full daylight as well as sunset our fingers are crossed

Our ceremony is at 5. The sun is supposed to set at 7:10, I believe.

We're doing ours bout 4:30 or 5...hoping enough time for the direct sun to not be pounding down on the section of beach we'll be at.

 

Which leads me to a question for you....having it at 3pm....are you getting married inside or on the beach? Will the heat affect you at 3pm? Last thing you want is to be miserable and sweating...whats the point of taking pictures if you're melting! :-)
