I went to the one they had in downtown DC this past fall--but I went after work. I didn't even attempt to "run with the brides" at 6am or whatever. They keep the dresses there until closing, so I tried on dresses from 6pm until it closed. It was MUCH calmer atmosphere at that time, even though there were tons of people shopping that evening. There were still lots of options there, even though I didn't score a dress for myself.

I will be going to the one in NYC this Friday, Feb 29th. I will not be getting there early only because I have heard the stories and I don't think I can handle the chaos. So a co-worker who has been to one told me I should be fine if I go around noon. So I will be there with my sister and cousin as backup and I will let you know how it goes and what to expect. I have heard the deals are amazing!

I accidentally stumbled across the one in NYC last year or the year before--went there to buy gloves, and was surprised by a sea of white. It was around 7:00 PM (they're open until 9:00 or 10:00) and remarkably quiet and calm. There were thousands of dresses, and only a few people going through them.

I can't speak for DC, but as far as the NYC one goes, I think you'll be fine if you wait until evening, until the mad rush is over. In fact, you'll probably feel much less pressure and be able to go through dresses at your leisure, instead of feeling as if there's another girl hovering over your shoulder ready to grab a dress if you don't want it!

Maybe you should go try on at a regular store before going there so you have an idea of what you're looking for? I live in Tysons. :) But I already have a dress and my weddings in May. Although part of me wants to go later just to see and see if I can find a dirt cheap 2nd dress for TTD.

I went to the Running of the Brides held at the NYC Filene's, annddddd I found a dress!!! I will have to say though it was entirely by luck. It is by Pronovias, I am not sure which collection it is from, and I only paid $500 smile159.gif

Let me start off by saying, I was slightly disappointed by the selection available, but it could have been because I got there at 12:30pm instead of when the doors opened at 8am. According to a salesperson I was chatting with there was a better selection at that time.

I went with a friend who was also looking for a dress, and I met my sister and cousin there. There were racks and racks of dresses, but most of the styles I found there were not very current and alot of the dresses looked trampled on. There were many people trying on dresses in the middle of the sales floor, but luckily there weren't many in the dressing rooms, so I was able to try on a few comfortably.

I honestly couldn't even remember some of the designers they carried, there was no organization, just dresses on racks so I had to comb through them one by one. Alot of the women were very territorial but I guess that is too be expected. I found my dress hanging in the dressing room all by it's lonesome and couldn't believe no one and grabbed it yet. I was very lucky, because I was ready to give up and go home. My friend had no luck and ended up leaving empty handed.

In conclusion, I will say to go, you can find something if you have patience and look throughly and also bring back up, it comes in handy. You may want to go earlier when there is a better selection, but if you aren't too picky you can wait and go later with less stress.

Good Luck, and I hope this helps!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
