Recommended Posts

Try David's bridal. They have a great instock selection of plus size dress (i am an 1cool.gif. The problem is I fell in love with tooo many of them..lol I did have one picked out but them my mom went to small bridal shop in the town where I am from. She went with my now sister-in-law to get mothers dresses and they found a dress they thought I would like so I came home and tried it on and fell in love. The plus side is my mom decided to pay for it right then...lol

but i can give you the details so you know what to look for, it's alencon lace, simple a-line. i did a lot of research on what would look good with my large breasted apple shaped short frame and it kept coming back to a v-neck which i love! i can't pull off a strapless i need the support.

have you seen any dresses that you just can't get out of you head yet?
Thanks :) Ok, I will have to check Watters out! I have NOT gone to check out dresses at all. I guess I am trying to avoid this part for as long as possible as I am trying to lose weight (50 lbs to go). Thanks for the details! I LOVE V necks and try to wear all the time and i think I have ruled out strapless because I totally must have the support, because I dont want to use duct tape on my wedding day LOL HAHA JK How tall are you? I am 5'0

I'm very short too....5'2". The v-neck is very sliming for the big chested and it draws the eye lineir up and down elongates the neck.

I did the same thing....I had everything planned and picked out before I went dress shopping too. I even had a nightmare about my dress situation I woke up in a panic. But once I found a shop that was soooo accomidating to me and she really was trying to make me happy as aposed to making the sale. which in turn got her the sale!

hang in there....start looking now you can always have the dress taken in as you lose weight. Since they take so much time to come in you'll be set!

Happy Hunting!smile123.gif

I think the hardest part is just getting out there to try on dresses. Once you get to the store you realize it isn't as big of a deal as you thought. I bet you will be able to easily find dresses in your size.

I'd start with David's Bridal because they carry more dress sizes than most smaller stores. You can get an idea of what type of dress works. I ended up ordering a dress at a smaller shop even though I never got to try it on. I was able to try on similar dress styles though and it worked out in the end.

I'm a street size 13/14 depending on where the clothes come from, almost 5'3" and to give you all the TMI, right now I weigh about 170. I got my dress at David's Bridal, and actually ended up buying a size 14, since it has the corset back, I can adjust it as I lose weight. From the hips down there is loads of room, and I liked the way the lacing is more spread out on the back so you can see the different colored fabric detail. When you get a larger size and pull the laces tight, there's not much point to having it be a different color. (Well this is how I feel about MY dress, on ME, maybe not everyones cup of tea!)

The bodice gives you great curves.

Hope this helps!

Oh and BTW, I'm standing on the raised platform and need major hemming to be done! I wish I was as tall as I looked in these pics!

relax and remember that dress shopping is supposed to be fun! i'm sure you'll find a dress that looks amazing on you! you can always call ahead to the small shops you plan to visit and see if they have gowns in plus sizes so its not a gamble when you get there...and definitely try David's since we all know they have them!

Good luck and don't forget to let us know how it goes!!! if you find one you love, you'll be hounded for pics, so be prepared :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
