Back from my wedding at the Barcelo Maya

Recommended Posts

The DJ didn't speak any english at all. We had to get my sister to do all the announcing, which actually worked out fine.

Some of my guests thought the hilariously cheesy/bad DJ actually added to the fun, my Fiance says that's the one thing he probably wouldn't have bothered paying for if we did it again.

I think that it was fine, nice to not have to get my sister or bro-in-law to have to do that, I'm glad we had someone else do it, and it was fine.

Sounds like a wonderful wedding! I am considering getting married at that resort as well and I was wondering if you could tell me how much your photographer cost minus the over night stay? I e-mailed her awhile ago but haven't heard back. Also, did you find the beach area where they had the wedding to be more on the rocky side than the rest of the beach area? Did you get to choose the area of the beach?

They gave me choices as to where on the beach to have it. Most of the beach was rocky but gorgeous, so I wasn't picky, but yes, on my first day, the WC walked me around her thoughts for where to have it given the number of people.

The photographer was fantastic. Her rates start somewhere around 3500 dollars I think, but it totally depends on what package you get. She has been on vacation for a while, so you might want to email her again, she's back now and catching up.

I recommend the resort for all the wedding planning aspects, but they do have some issues with the general reception of the hotel. Either way, it was the perfect day for me, and I'm sure yours will be too, wherever you do it!

OMG Margaret, I saw your pictures and they're absolutely beautiful!!! Looks like everyone had a blast! :) I'm very excited with my decision now.. I booked for next May at the Barcelo Maya! I have some questions that I hope you can answer..

1) Where was your cocktail hour held at? Everybody walked to the location right after the wedding or was there a wait for this?

2) How was the transition from the ceremony to cocktail hour to the reception?

3) How were you able to book the Mariachi grill (close the place out) for your reception? I'm assuming it was private for your guests or were there other hotel guests there as well? I think I'm having about 40 guests.. I'm wondering if that's enough to close out one of their restaurants/grills for us. I'm a little nervous about getting a banquet hall cause it looks rather plain.. no decorations, just a room. sad.gif

4) Do you by any chance know what options there are for the location of the ceremony if it rains ? I saw a picture of a hut that Ana sent me, but I'm not really crazy about it.

Thanks!

Hi Margaret!

Thanks so much for that detailed review of your wedding. I'm so happy to read that you had a wonderful time at the resort and that you had a blast at your wedding. I'm getting married there at the end of 2008 and you've just put a bunch of my concerns at ease.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
