Just came in the mail recently, I'm starting this weekend :) Did you set a deadline yet?

Nope. I wasn't sure if everyone received their book yet or if anyone started reading yet.

Ok girls checking in? Anyone still reading or waiting on the book. Just wondering so we can pick a deadline.

Oh.. I'm so excited that you chose my book suggestion! I hadn't realized but luckily had started reading it anyways. So far it's interesting. I'm oddly intrigued by circus life. I know some people ordered it and stuff so when should we aim to start discussing ladies? ( not that i'm done yet)

I've been listening to it on cd and I'm about half way through.

Has anyone already read this book? A little warning might have been nice about some of the content...

I don't think any of us had read it before except the person who submitted it. Or even if they had. But its not a requirement to read the book to submit it. I just choose a number randomly to choose the book from the submissions I get from you guys. So I read it for the first time with you girls. I have finished it though. I read it in a few days. But if we want to make sure the books are "clean" I think we should take a vote and then when you submit a book you have to know that its alright? I don't know. I'd like to hear some other thoughts on it as well. Personally I don't mind it. If its too graphic I skim over it.

I submitted the suggestion for the book and had not started reading it when I did. I am a member of "goodreads" which is a great website. It's a network of friends posting reviews about books. I had several people suggest the book.
I guess I'm not really sure what is inappropraite about the book. It can be graphic at times though so that may be it. I still think that it's a good read but maybe we could make up some guidelines that we should follow? I'm not sure cause like I said I hadn't read the book before so I wouldn't have known too much about the content. This is the blurb my friend wrote about it on my goodreads page and it sounded appealing. I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

recommends it for: historical fiction fans

A colorful introduction to the dark side of the traveling circus business in the early 20th century, with accompanying photos. Murder, romance, suspense, humor and circus animals - what else do you need?

I don't think we should censor our book club. As long as it's not pornographic I am cool with it. Perhaps we can give a warning. I wonder if books are rated like movies?

I'm not sure if books are rated like movies? Although if they aren't I bet they will be one day!

I'm not for censorship either Yari. I think we are all adults and can decide if something is for us or not on an individual basis. How about a disclaimer?

                    BOOK CLUB DISCLAIMER:
Participation in this Book Club is strictly voluntary. Books are not pre-screened and may contain material or discuss issues which are unexpected, shocking, or even offensive. If a member is not comfortable with the given selection participation can end and, if desired, begin again when the next book is selected.

Sound good ladies? If so I'll add it to the first page of this thread so it won't be missed.

Thanks for the disclaimer. I think it sounds good. I don't want to censor either. I like it!
