Hi Amy,

That seems pretty standard if you're doing a group room block. I had to put down a deposit of $100 per room, then as guests book and put down their $100 to hold the room, my deposit gets credited back to me and will go towards my final costs.

The amount deposit will vary I'm sure based on who your TA goes through as the tour operator. Your TA should be able to give you a copy of the contract prior to signing so you can go over it in detail. I would be careful about reserving TOO many rooms -- some contracts may state that if you drop below more than 50% of your original block, you may no longer qualify for the group rates. Also, make sure you understand very clearly the deadlines for dropping extra rooms from the block, so you don't get stuck having to pay for unoccupied rooms!!

FYI, my rooms were booked under the new management - as a NOW Resort property. I'm working with one of the TA from this BDW forum. If you have any questions, let me know!

Are you working with a travel agent or doing it on your own?....also, did you book your rooms when the resort was under previous management, the Paradisus Resort or was it recently through The Now?

Thanks!!!

Thanks 82turtles!  I did go over all of the details with my TA after I posted on here and he made me feel better by saying basically what you told me about how I would get the money back as each guest paid towards their deposits.  It just seemed like a lot to put out, but I'd rather be safe by having the rooms put aside and the better rate for my guests.  I also got the absolute final deadline, which I believe is 100 days prior to the event, to drop the rooms to get the remaining balance back.  I am going to go forward with paying the deposit.  :-)

You're welcome!
Yeah, it's a lot of money up front, which kinda sucks, but we figured it was worth it to make sure we had rooms blocked for people and lock in the rate like you mentioned, plus in the end the deposit goes towards what we would have to pay for our travel expenses anyways. And anything extra gets refunded to us. No money lost! cheesy.gif

hi ladies!

we just got back from our wedding at the now sapphire on friday.  our wedding was on feb 19th and it was AMAZING!!!!!!!! it went even better then we could have imagined!!!!! daniela was so great and she had every detail from every email that i have sent her, it is definitely a little stressful right before you go because you don't have everything clearly set via email, but once we got there and met with her i had NO worries.  she is wonderful! and the resort is amazing also, all the staff was sooo accomodating and friendly, the food was good.  we had 62 people with our group and everyone had such a great time.  we want to go back already!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
