Hello,

I used Jenny from Baja Weddings for my Sept '08 wedding at Cabo Azul Resort. Here's my review:

Baja Weddings: Grade B+

Overall: Overall we were happy with Jenny and Baja weddings. They are a big company and crank out a lot of weddings, so I didn't feel like we got a lot of personal attention. We paid $1500 for Jenny's services (we had about 40 guests).

Jenny Davis (our WC): Grade A-

Jenny is nice and easy to work with. She's on top of details and gets down to business. She's prompt to return calls/emails.

A few things though-since they are so big, it really does feel like they are cranking out your wedding. Jenny had her check list and boy was she going to get things crossed off on time- not so bad, but bad when you really need to judge the flow of an event.

oExample- We were supposed to have the father/daughter dance at 8pm then immediately following inviting all the guests to dance. The table just got served the meals (a bit slow service, but no biggie). I just got my meal. At exactly 8pm, she came up to me and said, ok it's time for your dance. No, no- we just got our food, I'll let you know when the timing is right.

I think someone who can judge the flow of the event would have been able to alter the timeline and wait until it was appropriate to dance. Had I said yes-I would not have eaten (nor most of my guests) or no one would dance, they would go back to their cold meals.

Also the company has a few policies we didn't agree with:

oOnly recommending local photographers. I get it, they want to support local vendors. But they go so far as to warn you against brining a photographer and scare you (saying that your film can be seized at the boarder by customs-we didn't have a problem).

oWearing really bright flashy clothing. I think they feel they are blending in with the guests, but really, they stuck out (our photographer pointed this out to us the next day-sure enough looking through the proofs- she stands out rather than blending into the background)

Price Negotiation:

oThey really don't get the best rates with vendors. I didn't have a big problem with this- I was happy to have them use their vendors as I didn't have the time to do the research- the extra money was worth the piece of mind.

oTable reservations at a club-she quoted us a rate of 1 bottle per 5 people. We went on our own and only had to buy 1 bottle (we had 20 people). Glad we didn't have her reserve the table.

Lack of attention to our details (not her checklist):

oWe asked for wine to be on request only vs. passed wine. We made this clear to Jenny and the banquet manager and it was even in our contract. Sure enough, they were passing wine during dinner. Jenny should have taken the initiative to stop this. I had to point it out to her. She said she would take care of it, but she didn't. The waiters served wine all night. This cost us a lot of money.

Overall, though, she was easy to work with during the planning process. Lacked some follow-through in the day of.

Bottom Line:

She's great if you just want someone to help recommend vendors and coordinate your vendors and make sure you are on time with your timeline. However, if you are looking for someone to hold your hand a bit and stand up more for your interests, then they might not be for you.

I would use Browns, they are full service and amaing!

At first we were nervous about doing business with someone we had never met before, and not only that, Browns was out of the country. This made our wedding planning a little bit harder than if we were to plan a wedding locally where we live. I contacted many wedding coordinators in the Cabo area and other caterers as well. But we decided to go with Browns because they were the most responsive and helpful. By far, a much better company than the others down there. More responsive, better-detailed quotes, and Browns covered every aspect of planning a wedding.

Our wedding could have not been more perfect and more special. Browns worked on every detail of the wedding to make it exactly how we wanted it. Our wedding turned out more than we could have ever dreamed of.

First off, Browns communication with me was superb. I would get instantaneously responses. And not only did I get a quick response, each email was extremely detailed and answered every single one of my questions. Nadia was easily accessible by phone or email. When we were coordinating the wedding, Nadia would give me pictures of examples flowers, or hair, or cakes, or anything that I wanted. That was great to be able to see what I could expect down there. But m y expectations were exceed when I sent Browns pictures of flower arrangements that I wanted for the occasion and when the flowers arrived, they were more beautiful than I would have ever imagined them to be. But exactly what I wanted.

Our guests still talk about how magnificent our wedding and reception was. Our guests raved about our food, and many of them thought since we had so many appetizers they were not expecting dinner. Our food was fresh and full of flavor. Browns showed up at our villa at 9am to start squeezing limes for a hand made margaritas that every one loved! Browns cooked the food at the house, so the food was warm and fresh when we sat down for dinner.

Browns service during the wedding was fantastic! I never had an empty hand, and neither did any of my guests. The staff was polite and very professional. They were there to make sure that every one of my guests was having a good time and had everything that they needed.

Nadia was able to hire a beautician to do my hair and makeup, and I couldn’t of felt more beautiful. She also did my mom’s hair and sisters in remarkable time and they looked great as well.

Browns planned everything, from the DJ, to the Mariachis, to the flowers, and even the candles that lit up the night. Browns was able to organize the legal ceremony and the religious ceremony. Browns even recommended the Villa where we held the wedding, and it was the perfect spot!

We have no complaints w ith Browns. I would recommend Browns to the highest level.

Thanks Browns! You made our special day amazing and we couldn’t have done it without you!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
