What to do with pets

Its a big problem for us too as the people that would look after my 2 are going with us.

I've got a rottie who thinks she's human and pines when we aren't there and I am worried she won't eat if she isn't with someone she loves and the other is a spaniel who is a nutter but with attitude lol

My FI is in the army so he is taking the rottie to one base where she can see her "auntie" and there is a vet on site just in case, she will love it because she loves company. Its about 3 1/2 hours away from here so the day after we get back the FI will be going to get her can't cope without my baby lol

The spaniel is an old explosives dog so he is going to another base about 6 hours away with people who can handle him if he kicks off lol

Its gonna be a hassle but no choice really - wish i could take them think meg (rottie) would look cute with a big bow and carrying the rings lmao smile120.gif

This is a BIG dilemma for us as well. We have a dog AND 15 ferrets...yup, 15. It's a "ferret thing" -- hard to explain. Even worse, all but three are 5 and 6 years old this year, so next year they'd be 6 and 7 year olds, God willing.

As of right now, the 3 people I trust to watch our ferrets (our two breeders and my friend) are planning on going with us. These little guys can get sick and go downhill so quickly it's unbelievable. So, in our case, we can't even leave them overnight by themselves and have a ferret savvy person come in for feeding and playtime. I can't even think of setting an exact date or start seriously planning until I figure something out for them. We have a show this weekend, so I'm going to be asking an acquaintance of ours who runs a ferret shelter when I see her -- her place is impeccable. She's knows what to look for w/these guys, and I KNOW she'll take great care of them (that is, if i can get on the plane and leave them behind w/out one of us being w/them) -- plus, she uses our same vet should something medically come up.

As for our dog, Brandy -- talk about human-like...she's a big baby and goes to work with FI every day -- kind of like their shop dog. We could never kennel her. When we're away for an afternoon/evening she even goes to Grandmom's for doggie daycare. ;-)

If my mom doesn't go w/us, she'll stay with my mom. If my mom comes, we're planning on asking my FI's boss to keep her -- he loves her like his own.

We were lucky with our dog that we have a great kennel that we use. We were gone for 2 weeks so we knew we couldn't just have someone come in feed her and walk her. Echo is never alone since I am home with her so I was worried about the length we would be away from her, but she was great. She was boarded on a big farm, and had lot's of freedom and my sisters dog, Echo's brother, was with her. They were kept in the same kennel together so they were happy dogs. Cheap however it was not, but hey whats a little more money when we were already spending so much:)

Our cat Bronte however stayed home. We just had a friend come in everyday to feed her and give her a little lovin. She was really glad when we got home.

  • 2 years later...

My dog is going into kennels for 3 weeks! A loooonnnnng time, bless her. She has been there before though and seems to like it so i am sure she will be ok.

Trouble is for this particular kennels she has to have the kennel cough vaccine, which is a squirt up the nose and she really doesnt appreciate it. She had to be sedated cos the vet just couldnt get the liquid up her nose without a fight. My poor little poochy! :-(

Oh boy this is a major concern for me.  We are going for 2 weeks. The 2nd week my son will be home and will care for Bandit ( yorki-poo)  As far as the first week, I have 2 friends that can look after him, but I am so afraid that he will run out the door and they will lose him.  I am sure he will be fine, but I am so paranoid lol.  I am home all day long, so he is use to going pottie at least 4 times during the day, but I know he can wait.  I am going to ask my friend that lives the closest, I am pretty sure she is not coming to the wedding. What I am going to do is have her drop him off at the house in the morning so he can be in familiar surroundings plus he has the cat to bother all day which he loves and spends hours licking his ears. Then she will pick him up after work and take him to her place.  If she can't do it, then my other friend has 2 dogs that Bandit somewhat likes, but she lets her dogs out for hours on end and again I am worried he will some how get out of their backyard and run away.  For me a kennel is out of the question, only because of me being afraid they will lose him.  I know kennels are totally fine and there are some amazing ones out there (other friends have used them), is just me being paranoid again lol

This is a huge concern for me as well, I have a chihuahua and hes not a extremely friendly one, he loves other dogs, but hes only keen on a few people, so I'm having a really hard time with this one, everyone he does like is going to the wedding and a kennel is totally out of the question I really think he would freak out if I put him in a kennel, chihuahuas are very clingy and the only time he is fine when I'm out of town is when hes with my mom but my mom is going so I'm totally at a loss for what I should about him sad.gif the good thing is we are only going to be gone for 5 days.

In our community there are a lot of pet care centers, you can leave pets there for hours or even days, its up to you. They will take care of your pets with proper food, vitamins ans environment as well while you are away. i sure there is a pet care centers on your community as  well. Try to check it on google for exact location in your place.

I like to leave my cat at home in familiar surroundings when we go away and my mum normally looks after her but of course she'll be coming to the wedding. My future BIL's girlfriend runs a pet sitting business but of course she'll be coming too! I'm going to ask her if she has any friends who can come round and feed her. Luckily a cat doesn't take quite as much looking after as a dog

We have a really good relationship with our breeder, so we will leave our dog with them for the two weeks.

As for the cat, we will probably hire an in-home pet sitter who will come twice a day to feed her and give her some attention etc. Might only do that for the first week, as all of our friends and faily will be back for the second week so we can get someone to check on her to save us the cash.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
