Anyone get married on a Royal Caribbean Cruise?

My fiancé and I are planning on getting married on the MAIRINER OF THE SEAS in October 2008 while in port in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. We plan on getting married in the shipâ€s chapel. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with getting married on a Royal Caribbean cruise, particularly one of the super ships that have a chapel that holds 40 people…. If so, how did it go? It is a bit overwhelming because most of the items are being controlled by the Royal Caribbean and their wedding planners… like time of wedding, and place of wedding (Iâ€m told that we wonâ€t be told that we have the chapel until three to four weeks before we cruise). As you may be able to tell, Iâ€m a bit nervous about it all but Iâ€m committed now financially. Still it would be nice to have reassurance from a bride that has been where Iâ€m at now.

You should check out the cruise critic wedding forum (google it, b/c I don't think I can post a link here), they have a forum dedicated to weddings/honeymoons. You will find a lot of mixed reviews about going through the cruiseline's wedding planners, unfortunately mostly bad. Personally, I like this forum a lot more, especially for all the great DIY advice, but there isn't too much specific info on here about cruise weddings (at least that I could find). Good Luck!

I share your concerns - I am getting married 01/09 on "Grandeur of the Seas" in the Port of Tampa, Fl. Seems like we have to wait till the wedding is on top of us - to get answers, and firm up plans. I have a friend who got married on Royal Caribbean - and everything was great - and her pictures were lovely. All we can do is hope all goes well, and as planned!

I didn't get married through Royal Caribbean, but through Norwegian Cruise Lines. However, the two companies use the same wedding planners, and I know exactly what you girls are going through. Getting any kind of answers to my questions was like pulling teeth. One thing I HIGHLY reccommend is keeping EVERY bit of correspondance you may have with ANYONE at the cruiseline...every email, every fax, every phone call (if possible), and bring this all with you the day of the wedding, just so you have written confirmation of everything you plan.

I will say though, in the end, the wedding turned out wonderfully. I didn't do any add ons to the package (we did a shoreside wedding in Bermuda), so there really wasn't anything for them to get confused.

Good luck with your planning, and try not to stress! I know, easier said than done!

I attended a Wedding Vow Renewal on a Royal Carribean Cruise last January. It was really nicely done, the couple brought their own minister, and we had a cocktail party afterwards in a small reception room on the ship. It was all done really nice and we considered getting married on a cruise before deciding on Mexico!

I just got back from a RC cruise and saw 2 brides floating around on different days. I was curious, and I know that you can have a private reception back on the ship. Everyone seemed happy and I have to say that as a guest and not a bride RC does a Wonderful job in the customer service area, everything on the ships is clean and people are happy. I think that guests will be very happy with the week they are with you on the ship, and the wedding would be beautiful. I am starting to think that we should go that route also!

OK, so when I was at Davids Bridal trying on my dress I was talking to a girl about our wedding plans. She had said she was doing it on Royal Caribbean and told me how they lost her reservation 3 times. She also said they got all the documentation (passport info) wrong twice and that she was on her last nerve. Shes been dealing with this for over 6 months. However, that was one person and I didn't know her well enough to tell if it could of been her or them. However, I figured I should at least post what I heard so just beware and do a lot of research.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
