Last night did push weights and 45 min of cardio.
Today is just 60 min cardio and abs.
Tomorrow I HAVE to wake up for spin class....missed it on Tuesday am and felt guilty all day :)

Amy you just reminded me to post...Did an hour spin this morning! I was never a morning person, but I love being able to get my workout in and still get to work by 8:30am! I think I'm going to add an easy yoga session in tonight after work b/c my body is in serious need of a stretch.

Amy, you're amazing! Seriously, I need to borrow some of your motivation. I took Nixon (my dog) for a run last night, but it wasn't really a great run for me because I had to keep stopping to see if he had to pee. Plus he got pretty tired after 25 mins or so (some of that was walking). But oh well, at least it got my butt off the couch, and he was so tired from it that he put himself to bed as soon as we got home at 7:15 pm! So cute.

So some of you have asked quesitons about the workouts.....Here is something I put together for a few other gals a while back. I hope it can help.

            WORKOUTS:

When I’m getting in shape for a special event or something like a vacation I usually work out about 6 days a week. If it’s just general “maintenance” or wintertime it’s more like 4 or 5 days a week. I try and get 4 days of weight workouts in, and then take a day of just cardio in between. Andy and I both structure our weight workouts between “push” days and “pull” days. I’ll explain……

Push days are chest presses, shoulder lifts, triceps (dips or kickbacks), and chest flys. You can change it up, but you get the general idea. On the push days I do dead lifts for the backs of the legs.

Pull days are biceps, back, and lats. I do two different back exercises (row machine), two different lat pull down exercises, and bicep curls with the free weight bar. On pull days I also do the squats and lunges.

Go here for animations of what workouts should look like:

            Body-for-LIFE Training Demonstrations

It’s really good to work the different muscle groups on varying days. For cardio I usually switch between the elliptical and treadmill, or spin classes. I go for 15 minutes on the elliptical, then go to the treadmill to run for 15, then back to the elliptical for 15 (total of 45 minutes) Mostly I do it that way because I get really antsy and bored so I have to change it up. I found it actually gives me a better workout to change it up like that since it is working different parts of my body.

            Here is a typical week:

            1: Push Weights & 35-45 min cardio
            2: Pull Weights & 35-45 min cardio
3: Just cardio (about 55-60 minutes or one hour long cardio class like spinning)
            4: Push Weights & 35-45 min cardio
            5: Pull Weights & 35-45 min cardio
            6: Just cardio (55-60 minutes/ some days I run outside/walk outside/etc.)
            7: day off

Once quick piece of advice that I have personally had to deal with.....it's not enough to just show up to the gym and get through your workout. You really have to work HARD. That was my problem for a long time. I'd go to the gym and just kind of go through the motions without really pushing myself. I had to switch it up and add in some different classes and things to shock my body into getting over a plateau.

Amy that is SO helpful...especially the cardio thing (15 elliptical, 15 treadmill, 15 elliptical) - I think I totally need to do that too. I get really really antsy if I do any one type of cardio for too long. I'm totally going to try that! And you're right about working hard at the gym...some days are better than others for me, but for sure there is the odd day where I just go through the motions. Not sure if there's even a point then!

              Thanks for the info :)

Ugh, Amy and Lindsey-- you are SO motivating! Heather, you are too! Give yourself credit for running and walking with your dog-- that's a lot of work!

Ha, tell me about it :) He has a lot of muscle for a little 27 pound guy, and he pulls while we're running so I have to yank him - I consider it a pretty good arm workout too :) Haha. I'm hoping to get up early tomorrow for another run (by myself this time...)

That sounds like when we run with our dog....except he also thinks its fun to run between our feet and jump in front of us the whole time....my FI and I have each tried running with Bailey once - never again! I envy the peopl with the well behaved dogs who run so nicely next to them...

Made it to 6am spin class this morning. Yay! I have so much more energy on the mornings I work out...I have to keep reminding myself that when the alarm goes off!
