AMEN!

The only time you hear parents talking about teachers is when they want to b*tch about them. I started out my collegiate career (haha it really was a 6 year "career") in the Ed. program. I did do some student teaching- particularly in a summer school program. Yikes- some parents are RIDICULOUS!! It's such a shame to because I wondered what the kids would actually be like if they had an active adult in their life.

Catherine- sorry for the rough day. I hope it gets better and I really hope you can find a way to deal with the ADHD student.

Have you ever considered making him "special" and giving him different assignments, I know its really hard as a teacher to do that because it makes more work for you, however if our ultimate goal is to help a child become a good productive person in life, I guess we have to sacrifice, hell we sacrifice decent paychecks and various other things to teach right.
Let me know if you want to throw some ideas off me. I know we teach different grades, but I teach all "honors' students so I know how frustrating this can be since I always have the more intellegent ones who get bored with the other kids.
I have tried to make the ADHD a helper but he can not sit still long enough to help anyone and he is paranoid. VERY PARANOID. If you look at him he is in your face ready to fight. The other bright child i actually tried that today and it worked for about 10 minutes and they were arguing because the slower child didnt work fast enough

Well I received a letter today (actually not to me but to the teacher I'm subbing for and the parent doesn't know that I know the password), anyways I get this letter which has been forwarded to Principals, teacher, and district. This mother is complaining to the principal on why they haven't changed me to another sub who knows Geometry. She then goes on to make a list of all the negative things that her daughter and supposedly others have said about me, such as grades lowering, being let out late to other classes, my wardrobe not being professional enough (I'm sorry do you want me to wear a suit everyday!), showing my tattoo...which I did not, took my jacket off for a sec. one day and sleeve moved a bit and they saw part of my small tattoo, forgot to put a band-aid on that day.
And so on and on and on....

I was furious so I marched to the office and asked to speak to both principals....showed them the letter and began bawling in front of them....sorry not professional but I couldn't keep it in.
I told them that this parent has not called me once to talk to me about her student, nor has the student talked to me, that she is falsly accusing me of stuff and that I don't get paid enough to deal with this crap. I only have 4 more weeks so deal with it. I told the principals the only reason I haven't left on my accord is that I like the school and the staff, most of the kids are great too.
They (the principals) both told me not to leave and that they would back me up and this is the profession....
I'm sooooo angry right now I want to SCREAM!!!!

sorry for hijacking and for being so long.
I went through that. I had a parent come to my class and call me all types of name except the one my mother named me. she told me that I wanted her husband (who ended up to be gay) and that I was picking on her son who mind you was spitting in kids faces and breaking my things. when I put him in timeout in another room he would leave just to come back to my room. (love/hate)

So I say it to say this. If you are giving it your 100% gives.gif about the parents. they are always going to have something to say about you. Continue to do your best because if the Principals didnt think you could do it they would have removed you by now

update: Well when I wrote the previous post it was in the beginning of the day, This afternoon (after school) the principal called me in and asked how my day was today, I told him it well today, no problems or so I thought.

Well I guess he has been getting letters from the district (since the mother forwarded it to them too) and so not to fight or argue he told me that it was probably better that I no longer long term sub for this class anymore that it's not worth my time nor money.

He said that he is on my side and that parents are terrible especially magnet parents (honor students).....He said this is not firing me because he still wants me to sub for other teachers but just not for this class anymore. He doesn't want to deal with the parents complaining or parent that is.

So I'm not subbing for this teacher anymore.

I really really really hope this bratty little kid and other bratty little kids get a horrible sub (since administration doesn't know if they will get another long term sub for rest of the month or if they will have different subs everyday).....and hope they learn to appreciate what they lost

I'M A GOOD TEACHER DARN IT!

Also I'm going to go back to the school tomorrow and talk to the principal again and make sure he gives me a good recommendation still when it comes to job interviews and this doesn't affect my future teaching career.

p.s he just told the teachers last week that he no longer with be the principal for the school next year and that he is done being a principal/teacher.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
