I have just purchased all the molds that we need for our starfish/seashell homemade soaps. We are making these to add to our OOT bags.

We will also use similar molds to make starish and seashell candy's for our AHR cupcake tower.

Just curious if anyone has made homemade soaps before and if so, some favorite scents (I'm thinking tropical breeze, coconut, etc). Also, should I just stick w/ tan/natural colors for these? I'm thinking that's easiest but if you were getting homemade soaps, would you want to see more colors?

Oh, we are making flip-flip soap too, which of course will be more colorful!

That is such a cute idea Tami! Did you know you can buy boxes of chocolates from Trader Joes (a local specialty grocery store, don't know if they have that is SC) that have like 20 pieces for less than $4, they are shaped like seashells and starfish and seahorses. They are a white/milk swirl chocolate pattern, and the perfect size for topping cupcakes. That's what we're using. Just thought you might be able to find something like this instead of making your own, in case you run out of time.

I made glycerin soap once before.. well actually it was a kit from the craft store.. a big block that you melt down and add scents to before pouring into the molds. It was fun but I don't have any real tips for you. Personally I would love to get soap with oatmeal..I always liked how the natural textures look and feel.. a light ocean scent would be nice.. some people really hate coconut.

My sister and I made soaps for Christmas gifts. We are also going to make a few batches to give as favors for my shower and then put the extras in teh OOT bags.

I think using color makes it fun. We did blocks of soap though and the ones that came out best, we used orange juice cartons for the mold and we had pulled out a portion of the batch and added color, then poured it on top of the mold and stuck a knife in and kinda swirled it a little, so each piece of soap had a swirl of color thru it.

We also did a batch of lavender soap and used dried lavendar buds. They kinda lost their beauty, cuz they turn brown in the soaponfication process (sp?), but people said they likd the way it felt like an exfoliator. Here are a few useful sites:

Cool! Thanks ladies!

I was thinking oatmeal too, Angela! Especially sicne it's likely some people will be sunburned, so oatmeal and aloe would be nice scents.

Yea, I'm not a fan of coconut either, but it was one FH thought of. lol.

We don't have a Trader Joes, but that definitely seems like the way to go for the cupcakes! Less work=happier Tami!

I'm also making soaps for my OOT bags. I'm making small glycerin soaps and putting them in organza bags, these will be like hand soaps. Then I'm making bars of soap with a Shea butter base so they will be moisturizing. I think I'm going to make these purple (my colors are pink and purple) then I'm tying a piece of raffia around it with a tag that says what kind of soap it is. Right now I'm using coconut scent, but when I run out of coconut i'm going to buy pinapple scent.

I found a TON of great ideas on the www.michaels.com site -- but I am going to stick with the starfish and flip flip molds. I think I know how to do the different colors now ... but it will definitely be an all-day project! lol.

I hope I can find the time to get it all done with trying to get our house ready for new hardwoods and possibly selling, starting the new job, showers and b-party, final fittings, trying to come up with extra $$ for this wedding out of my a$$ and final prep and planning. AARRGGHH!!!

Is there a smilie yet for :pulling my hair out: ??

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
