Steal Away! I got the idea from someone else ... that's what BDW is all about! I had never heard of a Hand Ceremony before joining this forum!

This site has a TON of great ceremony readings on it. It's where I got most of the ideas... Orange County Wedding Officiants Ministers Non-denominational Wedding Ceremonies

Tami- thanks for posting this site! I'm so glad I didn't know about BDW a year ago when i first got engaged b/c this site has taken over my life! There is so much more to think about than had ever crossed my mind! If I had been thinking about all of this for the past year i think i would be single by now : ) I think i'm doing the hand ceremony now. And i like the red rose idea too.

We did a hand blessing too. There must be many varieties out there...here was the sample our minister sent us. I remember him saying something about children at the actual ceremony, and it being longer than this because our arms were getting tired...lol very similar to Tami's though:

Hand Blessing

Jamy, please face William and hold his hands, palms up, so that you may see the gift that they are to you.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness. These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow and tears of joy. These are the hands that will comfort you in illness and hold you when fear or grief fills you. These are the hands that will give you support and celebrate with you in your accomplishments.

William, take a look at the position of your hands with Jamy's and know that this is the last time that you will have the “upper hand.”

William, please hold Jamy’s hands, palms up, so that you may see the gift that they are to you.

These are the hands of your best friend, smooth, young and carefree, as she promises to passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness. These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times. They are the hands that will comfort you when you are sick or console you when you are grieving. These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness. These are the hands that will give you support as she encourages you to fulfill your dreams.

Our prayer for you today is that both of you will use these hands to build a marriage where all your dreams come true.

We are doing traditional vows but we also wrote our own. We checked out this website (warning alot of it is cheesy) Welcome | 365vows.com and pulled out the things we wanted to express. Instead of both of us repeating the same thing, he will say one verse, I will say the second and we will alternate back and forth. We are also doing the hand and sand ceremony.

I totally agree! I have become obsessed with BDW as well ... and my family doesn't understand that I am so intent on getting so many DIY projects done b/c they would have never thought of all of this stuff either. I think they think that I am crazy. lol. smile03.gif

    • I and my partner are going to get married on August 12th. We met each other through a lesbian dating website. Both of us want that day to be a memorable day. We are in confused on which dress to wear for the wedding ceremony. Any suggestion on lesbian wedding dress? I prefer white, whereas my partner prefers of-white. Which one do you think will look good? Should we go for same dress or different one? Share your thoughts.
