Writing vows???

Recommended Posts

Hey Ladies,

So from reading other Threads about how a DW ceremony works is that they leave time for your own vows. i always pictured my wedding being the traditional vows that a minister gives you... Does anyone know if you do get these same vows on a cival ceremony or is it a cut to the chase kind of thing?

I never thought I'd have to write my own vows.. its hard to express how you feel on the most important day of your life you feel like I love you to Death isn't good enough.... what if his vows blow me out of the water.. i can't call for a redo....blush2.gif

I'm taking little tidbits from here and there and incorporating it into our Hand and Sand Ceremonies ... so that it won't be the standard readings but will instead be an expression of who we are.

I'm going to get a copy of the standard ceremony from our WC and do the same with the formal ceremony wording as well. Nothing major but change words or phrses to better fit the two of us and our relationship.

So you can change the wording of the ceremony? Also.. sorry to be asking all these question but i have 5 months before i get married and you know how DW go.. you really don't talk to your WC until a month or two away..

Anyways.. for teh sand ceremony.. i heard people that do taht after the judge has left.. I am just so confused on what to do or even how a DW civil ceremony goes.. ahhhhh I bet we will get a walk trough the day before.. if i need vows i can have then pre wrote....

You can pretty much do anything you want.

I'm not sure about the placement of our Sand Ceremony. We are going to do the Hand Ceremony right before we exchange rings ... but I'm considering doing the Sand Ceremony when we cut the cake.

I've been in contact with my WC since our planning began, which was almost a year ago ... so I guess it depends on the WC.

Sure, you can change the ceremony wording. It's your wedding, silly. :-) I'd email the WC and ask if she can send you a copy of the standard ceremony wording. Then, you can make revisions and send it back to her ... just make sure you also have copies for the Judge/Minister on your wedding day (and translated into proper Spanish if the ceremony is in Spanish).

Nope, I meant Hand.

The Hand and Sand Ceremonies are different.

This is our draft for the Hand Ceremony:

Tami, please hold Tomâ€s hands palms up, so you may see the gift that they are to you.

These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and vibrant with love, as he promises to passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness.
These are the hands that will work along side yours, as together you build your future, as you laugh and cry, as you share your innermost secrets and dreams.
These are the hands you will someday place with expectant joy upon your stomach, until he too, feels his child stir within you.
These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes: tears of sorrow and tears of joy.
These are the hands that will comfort you in illness, and hold you when fear or grief engulfs your heart.

Tom – take a look at the position of your hands with Tamiâ€s.

And know that this is the last time that you will have the “upper hand.â€

(short pause / laughter)

Tom, please hold Tamiâ€s hands palms up, so you may see the gift that they are to you.

These are the hands of your best friend, smooth, young and carefree, as she promises to passionately love you and cherish you through the years, for a lifetime of happiness.
These are the hands that will hold each child in tender love, supporting and encouraging them along the way.
These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times.
These are the hands that will comfort you when you are sick, or console you when you are grieving.
Together as a team, everything you wish for can be realized.

God, bless these hands … so that they may always be held by one another. May they have the strength to hold on during difficult times … yet always remain tender, gentle and nurturing. May these hands continue building a relationship -- founded in love and rich in caring. May Tom and Tami see their hands as healer, protector, shelter and guide. Amen.

My uncle is going to read it just before we exchange the rings/vows.

We will probably save the sand ceremony for the cake cutting.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
