Hi Ladies,

I wasn't sure really where to put this thread but seeing as though it relates to Cancun I thought this would be the best place. Has anyone got or know about Addisons disease ? My FI's dad has it along with a blood disorder which dosn't normally affect anything he does as he has medication but if he is sick the medication dosn't stay in his system and he can go down hill very quickly, he does travel but not long haul. I'm a little worried because they havn't book yet but I've got 20 people that already have, they say it should be ok but hes got to see a specialist, It would be awful if they couldn't come as Simon is an only child and he wants his dad to be his best man, Have we done the wong thing by booking before they know ? I know it sounds awful but we both really want a DW. What are your veiws ? And help, advice or info would be fab xxx

I'm not familiar with Addison's disease but I hope he gets the clearance to travel to your wedding.

As for choosing a DW before you know if he can go, don't feel bad. I think many of us have/had someone near and dear who couldn't be there for reasons beyond our control. It happened to us. I think a wedding should be where the people getting married want it, just because of what a marriage ceremony symbolizes. However we choose to take the sacred vows, whether in town or out of town, is a very personal decision.

I really hope he can make it because I know it would mean the world for him to be there, but if he cannot, don't beat yourself up over it. I'm sure he would want his son to be happy....best wishes :o)

Thanks for the support, I just hope others see it that way, Anyway like you say they're 95% sure that there shouldn't be a problem, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed, they say its got something to do with the altitude of the county and not nessecery the flying, I don't know ??

My mom has Addisons Disease

and she is coming :)

for the most part if she just takes her meds she is great!

Sometimes if she is in the heat too long she gets a bit flu ish like, but she says: thats what the air conditioned rooms are for wink.gif

Should be fine!

PS - she has it BAD! She almost died once ... so truly, rest assured, it should be fine

I wrestled with this decision too. My dad is a large guy (over 500 pounds.) he hasn't flown in 30 years. i didn't think he could make it to a DW, but I knew it was either DW or elope at the courthouse. I got sick everytime I thought about planning a traditional wedding. So I finally decided to go with the DW. I knew my dad wouldn't want to hold me back from something that meant so much to me. So I broke the news to him gently and he was THRILLED! He can't wait to go! he has lost 100 pounds in the 8 months I've been engaged. We got him travel insurance through access america. It would cover emergeny medical issues. I also learned about getting him 2 seats for the flight & a wheelchair to transport him around the airport. He still has 4 more months to lose weight. If he keeps up his progress he should be in good shape for traveling.

I am so glad I didn't cancel the DW I've always wanted.

my dad has addisons also. he's been seeing an herbal specialist (my parents are total new-age hippies) and he's been pumping himself full of this certain tea and ecidopholus in addition to his normal med cocktail. we were definately nervous at first about how we would do with a dw but we're moving ahead. the big thing is just getting his immune system in top shape and being very conscious of the things that get people sick in mexico. for example, he's bringing his own ice cube trays to make ice from the bottles water, etc.

my only advice is to not avoid this topic of conversation with simon's dad. millions of people have addisons and travel and lead normal lives. just need to be smart/strategic about it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
