Hi Susanita,

I am booked for November 26 if they can get the judge. If the judge cannot make it for your time slot then you will have a symbolic ceremony, and when the judge arrives you will just sign the papers with him. I am getting married locally just before we leave, and will just have a symbolic ceremony in the DR,(we won't be telling any of our guests though). I found out I will be saving close to $1000 by doing this as judge services went up to $500 I believe, and for me to translate my documents will cost me another $550. I was nervous about the judge too that's why I opted to just have a symbolic ceremony. Hope this helps!

Also with respect to this whole photographer business, really big part of my decision to book an outside photographer is because the resort would not provide me with their portfolios, any samples of the work they do, or any information about what type or style of photographer they are.  I was not comfortable just showing up and leaving the photos of one of my most important day/events up to a person I'd never met never having seen their work before.  I don't think it's unreasonable for a bride to ensure that her day is captured in the way she wants by a person she feels comfortable and confident will do that.  Especially when they're basically asking you to take a leap of faith.  Maybe I'm just a lunatic control freak, but somehow I don't think I'm the only one who feels this way.  The resort needs to make some kind of concession, either be more accommodating with respect to providing info and samples of the photographers' work or let people bring their own photographers with them.  Honestly if this decision came down before I booked I probably would've booked elsewhere.

Hello ladies!

This was just posted on the Dreams Punta Cana page on Facebook by another bride:

ATTENTION: I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH IRMA ( A SUPERVISOR AT DREAMS) SHE SAID SHE IS CHECKING WITH CORP OFFICE, BUT SHE IS NOT AWARE THAT THERE ARE CHANGES INVOLVING HIRING OUTSIDE PHOTOGRAPHERS. SHE IS CONFIRMING WITH CORP OFFICE THEN WILL POST OF FACEBOOK THE RESULTS. SHE IS NOT AWARE OF SUCH TALK OR EMAIL SENT TO ANY BRIDES! YAY!

HOPEFULLY we will hear good news soon!! I'll post Irma's reponse here when it is available.

Facebook friends to answer your concerns regarding external photographers on property the following is applicable as of March 16th:

1-All guests are permitted to bring an external photographer if this photographer is from an oversees compan...y and a registered guest staying at the hotel.

2- No local external photographers are permitted on premises booked after March 16th. So for those guests that have contracted a photographers prior to March 16th, they will be allowed on property.

I hope this answers everyone's question! I also hope they inform their wedding coordinators of this information!

That doesn't help many of us :( Michael Weiler, HDC are not overseas and are not registered guests at the hotel which would mean we can't use any of them and are stuck with Dreams photography :( This super sucks as I haven't booked prior to March 16th. Corporate NEEDS to change this policy ASAP. Super bummed :(

What photographer does Dreams use? Their prices are astronomical for the amount of coverage and pics they are offering! If they want to compete with outside photographers they need to have similar packages and rates! The fact that they don't even provide much info on who they use is also ridiculous.

Sorry Tink.

I had booked prior to March 16, (actually I booked in January) and was angry that I was asked to cancel.

It really is unfortunate for those who has not booked before that date, but don't give up!

If you are on Facebook, send your concerns to Irma, or post it directly on the web page.

If there is enough pressure they may change their policy.

Sorry it wasn't better news sad.gif

In reference to the welcome dinner....We have decided to have a bonfire on the beach after all of our guests have arrived. Most of our guests are coming on Saturday, so we were thinking possibly Monday night and the wedding is not until Thursday. This way people in our group who don't know each other will be able to recognize each other around the resort. I believe the bonfire is $150 an hour, which is steep for a bonfire. But, we will only be having it from approx 8-10 pm. My WC, Jennifer, quoted me for $550 per hour for an open bar during the bonfire, but that was when we were going to have a cocktail hour with food. We have changed our mind on that and now only want the bonfire and the open bar, so not sure how much that will be. I will be checking on that soon tho.....

This is only true if all rooms are booked through Dreams themselves.  All my guests booked through different travel companies and we have 14 rooms in total and didn't get any free rooms at all. You might want to check with the resort before telling guests about this because It isn't exactly true. When I questioned the resort about this they told me I needed 15 rooms booked before getting one free because not everyone booked through the same person.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
