Hey MsVasq,

I'm getting married the week before you June 21st! :o)  I am actually doing things a little less traditional....I'm going to send my formal invites out in January and I'm going to ask for my RSVPs back 3 months before (March).  I am NOT going with a TA, so people are going to have to do a little research on their own. I figure I would give them 3 months to decide if they are really serious about going or not, time to do their research to see if they can afford it, and actually book a room. 3 months also gives me enough time to finalize my Out of Town bags, favors, programs, food/reception costs (how many tables/chairs/decorations, etc I'll need) without having to go crazy or pay extra money in rush shipping. I am also working on putting together our wedding website where guests can visit and get information at ANYTIME, especially before invites go out. I'm going to try and be really detailed on our website and include links for transportation services to and from hotel, etc.  Hope this helps a little. Just thought I'd give you a different option and way to look at the planning portion.

Maybe we'll meet up for a drink or something at the resort before your big day! :o)

MsVasq,

Yes, I hope to still be there!!!! We're going to stay and honeymoon there, so we're praying we get to stay until the 28th or 29th. *crosses fingers for generous Honeyfund gift givers* LOL

Sisterbrides, maybe I'm just freaking myself out...but I just read the last couple of reviews on Trip Advisors about the resort and its been BBBAAADD!!! Really horrible reviews....has anyone been there before...anyone talked to their TA about where there rooms are...one of the biggest complaints was where the rooms were..which building was new and which were old and drippy and musty....

I was there in January 2012 and stayed Friday to Sunday just to check out the property for my wedding and I have nothing bad to say! The food was much better than I expected...it was really good, the rooms were CLEAN, the property was well kept.

I get married there in 8 days and I also read reviews... makes me NERVOUS AS HELL so I had to stop reading them!!!!!!!!!!!

Msvasq!!!!!!!! Tcruz is a married women lol.... I know everything eas beautiful......3 more coming up Whoop Whoop...... My count is 49 so I'm ordering 55 of everything, that's it....AND I.M NOT GONNA FEEL BAD ABOUT IT. I gave everyone so much time. I sent text messages, email reminders, and made calls. My TA has called anyone several times if they ever inquired about the price so it is what it is.... I'm getting a dummy cake 2 take with me. The cake pictures r a big deal 2 me. The price is 175.00 and the real cake can b cut in the back. One of my Aunties buys the wedding cake 4 every niece do she's happy with that price cause if I was getting married here my cake would have been expensive. I love tall cakes. I would make myself sick if I kept reading the reviews so I just wont do it. I trust my Sister/Brides so I'll wait 2 hear from y'all... XOXO Skyy...

So...I have been following this blog since last year but never wrote anything until now.  I just got married at Dreams on 10/6 on the beach with my reception at Himitsu.  My WC, Deyinara,  was great...she did everything I asked...this is their job, they do know what they are doing.  I brought pics/diagrams/outlines...you know name it.  But most was not needed.  My wedding turned out perfect!  Of course there were a few MINOR things, but nothing I cared about at the moment or now.  We used DJ Mannia and our DJ was so worth it!  We sure danced the night away and couldn't have asked for a better DJ.  We met with our DJ the morning before our wedding and with the WC twice before the wedding.  We went with the Silver package and upgraded to Grouper instead of Mahi Mahi and was not charged.  The food was fantastic and everyone loved it.  We had 2 guests that had diet restrictions and they accomodated nicely.  We all got our hair done, they did our hair way better than what were in the pictures we had!!!  Do not stress about this!  They know what they are doing!  I brought a lot of decoration with us...it helped with cost.  but was a pain to have 4 extra suitcases...lol!

As for the resort...the rooms are OK.  I love hotels and staying places so the rooms did not impress me too much.  The preferred club is not worth the extra money...so if your guests are wondering which to go with, the standard is just fine.  Our honeymoon suite was big but the room was still not a 4 or 5 star room.  The resort...grounds, pool, beach, restaurants were great.  the pool was perfect, swim up bar, cabanas and loungers.  The beach was beautiful, the ocean is a lil rough than other resorts in Punta Cana, but I am not much of an Ocean girl.  Take floats with you if you can, you can purchase them there but they are expensive.

The restaurants were good...some better than others.  Oceana and Portifino were great!!!  If you tip at the restaurants they will take care of you!  make sure you have the mango flowers!!!!

Don't waste your money at the casino...you won't win!!!

Out of 37 guests only 4 got sick with something...but 3 of them have health issues, so not too sure what it really was.  Take Immodium!!!  And drink lots of water!!!

All in all...for the price, this resort worked for vacationing with family and friends.  I would not go back to this resort, but this is my 2nd time to DR and I love it there...just depends what kind of resort you are looking for.

So, Brides...relax!!!  My wedding was beautiful and I would not change any of it!!!  My friends and family all had a wonderful time and we all enjoyed relaxing at the pool all day.  Watch out for their Rum, Brugal!  It is very strong!!!  and for trantulas!  Few of our guests did come across them on the pathways at night or morning.  Try the Drity Monkey and their Mudslides.

Oh, the spa/massages/pedicures/manicures are not worth it!!!  The fitness room is good for a resort!!!

We brought our photographer with us...here is just one photo I have for now!

700

Happy planning to you all...it will all work out!  And when people tell you the day of, you just won't care, they are right, you won't!!!  Good Luck!

Sister Brides...  I just had the biggest heartbreak happen to me. Someone I know (she was a friend from HS) got married in MY DRESS.

Its been my #1 nightmare come true. I know my wedding is many months away and I bought my dress so early & know that many other girls would buy it ... but never would I imagine actually seeing someone I know wearing it.

I feel so sad & am now debating on getting a new dress.

My sisters, friends & FI are being super supportive & saying that I can make it my own & that I shouldn't get upset... but I know that you ladies would understand where I am coming from.

I'm totally heartbroken & can't seem to stop the water works from flowing crybaby2.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
