Hi! I just got engaged too this past May and I am thinking of booking my wedding at Dreams Sept 1, 2012 - However, the weather/hurricane is keeping me on edge and I am rethinking of getting married in May 2013 instead :( I would love to get married Sept 1, 2012...but I dont know about the weather.... is anyone else getting married September? Please help... I am totally thinking about doing the gazebo because it's less wind :) and I know I will be on the beach every single day... lol

I Wen and welcome! We are having our wedding ceremony at the gazebo! I am probably the only destination bride out there that was looking for a resort that had non-beach ceremony options, and I thought that Dreams was by far the prettiest with the gazebo.

Ska, thanks for the OOT bag info- and it was great that you included the links to everything that you bought! Its so nice to get some great ideas! cheesy.gif

I still have yet to hear back from Jennifer.. what kind of things did your WC need from you?  I am getting really annoyed that I am not getting a response!!   We are having ours on the Portofino Terrace and doing the gazebo wedding.. we have about 50 people coming!  Have you made appts for hair and stuff yet? I have been trying to get ahold of the spa, but of course no response from them either!

Hey Amber,

That isn't all that strange. I really wanted our ceremony in the gazebo as well. We had been at another destination wedding and they were married on the beach, although nice I knew that I didn't want me (or my guests) for that matter having to be barefoot and in their wedding day finest! :)

As an aside, when we were down there for our wedding there were a few brides that changed their minds from the beach ceremony to the gazebo, since they didn't want to have to contend with the wind down by the beach.

Happy planning!

J

Hi there Jump1012! It always takes a while to get a response back from WCs. I was told that I would be able to make my hair and makeup appointment the week of the wedding. That being said though, I will contact the spa directly when it gets closer and see if they will let me schedule it. (I'm not getting married until Nov 2012)

Jen- thanks! :) I have read so many times on here "why do people have a destination wedding and not get married on the beach- that's the whole point". I totally get why people say that, but I really want to wear heels with my dress, as funny as that sounds! :) I really love the gazebo too, it just looks so breathtaking in pictures. Btw, did you have the fabric put on the gazebo for your ceremony?

Hi All,

As for the WC's, yes, they delay in their responses, they are sooo busy especially this time of year they have so many weddings. So do not worry, as they eventually will respond. If your wedding is not coming up, they will definitely take their time in their response since they are dealing with brides that have weddings that month or within a month or two. In the end though, you will get a response and also have a great experience.

As for the beach wedding, the few reasons i did not want it on the beach is: 1) I wanted to wear heels, so would not have been able to if we were on the beach, 2) They do not section off a part on the beach, so i read/seen that the hotel guests watch the entire ceremony, which is fine, but also at the same time, you may have folks that are loud or people walking around in their bathing suits close by. So i didn't think I would've felt comfortable and also i didn't want to risk if there were kids playing near by making noise. Brides has mentioned that the hotel guests in the most part were respectful when they saw a wedding was going on. I just rather not risk it. 3) I would be too nervous about the wind and my veil blowing around all over the place and also the salt in the air possibly effecting my hair. =) Who knows, but again, didn't want to risk it.

For the spa, they told me that they only create their appointments as far as one month out. So that you aren't able to book too early. I will be sending my email at least one month out to make this appointment! Especially since there are 3 weddings a day and i think they have 3 people doing hair/makeup, i definitely don't want to miss the chance since i have no idea how to do make-up and i wouldn't have a back up plan! =)

For dates for weddings, i chose November as it is the very tail end of hurricane season (so hopefully wouldn't have to worry too much about hurricanes) and also it is off season during that time. I would hate to book it during a time that is peak and hurricane, just didn't want to risk it and be too expensive for my guests. Just a thought.

Happy planning ladies! time will fly by! I have been on this forum since May of last year with all the questions concerns that you all had, now it's less than 4 months away and i am soooo excited! I can't wait! I will completely help out if you guys need anything while i am there as i know how you all are feeling! So just let me know with a PM if you want any pictures of anything.

Thanks,

Ska2

Hey Amber,

I also wanted to wear heels with my dress, so that was also a big reason for me to do it in the gazebo. Also as a bit of a control freak, I just didn't like the unpredictability of a beach ceremony, although I was all for our photos being taken at the beach. Since I think the relaxed vibe and beautiful scenery helped us relax, and helped make our photos turn out great - or at least we thought so! ;)

The fabirc was already up the day we arrived so I think it was there for all of the weddings that week, although we did pay for the gazebo decorations which included the flower arrangements, chair covers and flower petals down the aisle.

Hey Jen!

Did you have a choice as far as what color you wanted the flower petals to be? It seems like a lot of people had red, but I really want white. I have no problem bringing my own if I need to, especially if they don't put out too much. Carolina also sent me bouquet pics- it was like 2 pages worth of samples. Is that really the whole selection you have to choose from? Someone earlier on here mentioned there was a book they went through to make their flower selections. How were their centerpiece choices? (thanks for all of your input by the way!pinkie.gif)

Ska- I am so excited for you!!!! You will have to let us know how the weather is while you are there- I am getting married Nov 2012 and I based that decision on hurricaine season being over as well. :) Plus everyone will be dying for warm weather as it gets colder around here!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
