The sand was not as white as you would imagine, but it was very beautiful (hence why I was married on the beach). I would definitely get married on the beach again in a heartbeat, it was a fantastic decision! People (for the most part) respect a wedding and keep their distance. There was one or two people who walked through, but I was too caught up in the moment to notice. It was only afterward that I noticed a figure blurred out in the background. The water was the bigger issue, since you can only swim in a very small part of the ocean. I also heard from another group who was down there that their daughter was married at DPB and it was even more beautiful, but smaller. The only thing about Bavaro beach (from what I've heard) is that people walk in the water behind the ceremony A LOT more. And from my own experience, the vendors can be rather annoying (at DPC you don't have any, except for a couple on the resort).

As for HDC (Arnaud) I would HIGHLY recommend him! a photographer from his company did our wedding (Francesco) and he was professional and knew exactly what would (and wouldn't) make a shot look great. We got our prints back before we went home (a definite bonus) and everyone is raving about our pictures!

Hi Nat,

Thank you so much for the details on DPC and DPB. I had heard from a few people about the beach at DPC and the fact that the water was a bit rougher, so you couldn't go out too far into the ocean. It's nice to hear that the other guests respected your wedding and there weren't too many onlookers.

I really appreciate your feedback on your wedding experience at the resort. How many guests joined you at the resort? In general, how was the resort?Did your guests enjoy their stay as well? Oh, by the way who was your WC?

I'm so glad that you are happy with your photos. I keep telling my fiance that they are really one of those things that we will really look back on and be glad we didn't scrimp on. How did you find out about HDC for your photography? Did you have them do some candid photos pre-wedding, in addition to the standard ceremony and family shots afterwards? Where their rates comparable to the resorts photographer?

Congratulations once again and can't wait to see your pics!

Hi Jen!

We had a group of 20 people in total.  DPC was able to accommodate my group's requests, and had everyone in my group in the same building.  In fact, they were even on the same floor!  Except for us, since we were preferred club.  We loved all of the little extras this gave us, so if you can do it, I would highly recommend it!  My guests enjoyed their time at DPC immensely; one or two had A/C problems, and one of their problems was never resolved (which was kind of brutal).  But they did not let it ruin their trip anyway :)  The resort is gorgeous, immaculate and does not disappoint!

We had Deyanira, and she was fantastic when it came to being a go-between for me and everyone else.  She even helped me organize something with the head Concierge (Aida Cabrera); a surprise birthday for my MOH on the day we arrived!  And, when HDC was running a few minutes late (and I was panicking) she made the call to see what was going on.  She is actually expecting now (like Toya said) so I hope whoever has her gets to keep her!

I found out about HDC on this forum, I would have never known otherwise.  Despite the photographer being a few minutes late, he knew EXACTLY what to do, and we got mostly all the shots we were looking for.  The ones that were missing were the detail shots, but we took those ourselves anyway :)

Thanks ska2m,

It's great to hear from someone that has been to both properties. I have been flipping between the two and I think we've decided on the DPC. The other thing that I noticed was kind of strange, was that although they both charge the same for their wedding packages, their menu options are identical, but the costs - especially the extra pp charges - are considerably different (almost a difference of close to $20 pp!), but now that you mention that DPB doesn't have terraces available for the reception, so that could be the difference.

Thanks,

J

She may have been really busy, but i found that to be a negative since I would have to work with her from NY. Also, the main reason I did not choose DPB is because they had no terraces for our reception and that was a main criteria.

I love DPC as the beach is pretty private from the other resorts since it is completely out of the way. So you don't have guests from other resorts just walking onto the property to visit.

DPB was a beautiful property and more modern, so if you go that route, it won't be a bad choice. It ust didn't have the criteria i was looking for for my wedding.

Hope this helps!

Hi Nat,

Thanks so much for sharing these details of your wedding day and the resort itself. Also, thanks for the tip about Deyanira, she is the WC that I have been working with - so it's good to get the heads up that I may be losing her soon...

Thanks again,

Jenn

The forum is so quiet!  What is everyone up to?  Is Misty the next bride to become a Mrs??

No news on the "situation" front here -- we have been VERY patient since we were told 3 weeks ago that our reception site (the only one available for 100 people) is already booked.  Needless to say, my FI and I finally got fed up and e-mailed Carolina telling her this needs to be resolved now.  I'll update you as it progresses.  I want this to be finalized so I can be done with all of the paper stuff (invites, enclosure cards, RSVPs, programs, pre-travel brochure, etc etc etc).  My busy season for work is Sept and Oct then it's 4 weeks until we leave for DPC so I want everything done before Labor Day!  We shall see...

What is everyone else up to??

Other then that I picked up my dress woohoo

I've been kind of crazy here between my sister visiting from Argentina and my bridal shower. We are also going on vacation the last two weeks of august to Europe, which means less time to do wedding things! Apart from my weddings from work, I've taken on two extra events on the side. I'm planning a country themed wedding for September 5th (colors are orange and green) and a baby shower for September 26th with a cherry blossom theme. Therefore, I'm extremely busy trying to finalize all details for both of these events before our vacation. Regarding our wedding, we have 2 more people coming, total of 22 guests plus the two us, which is great! Hopefully we will get a few more in the next few months. My wedding dress should be arriving in September, my second dress (short one) is already in my closet and fits great! (I will change into this dress for the last few hours of the evening - in that way I can dance all night! ). I also just purchased a third dress (lol) for the TTD session, which I can't wait to try on!!! I should get it in the mail in a few days. My FI also purchased his outfit from Banana Republic and the groomen's outfits are also ready to go. mmm.... what else??? Oh yes, I did had my Boudoir photo session with Jen this past week, her website is http://www.jenerations.com/, she was AMAZING! The pictures looked great! I can't wait to have them all edited and ready to go! This is my wedding present to FI, I know he will LOVE THEM! I think that's everything for now.... Misty your big day is coming up sooo sooonnnnnn! Jenise you are next!!!!!!!!!!! by the way Jenise, you are the HOTTEEESTTT chef I've ever seen in my life!!! (I saw one of your pics by mistake in Jen's computer, I recognizeedd youuu right away!)

Damn Eliana you seem to have so much done! Thanks for the FB friend request by the way :)

I am working on invitations and wedding favors right now. And by working on I just mean that I need to place the orders. Haha I am far from a DIYer. We are sending luggage tags and embroidered hats to our guests as the wedding favors before going. That way we dont have to lug anything down there. I just can't wait to go on this vacation!!!

Also, my bachelorette party is next weekend in Vegas!!!!! and next weekend is my 100 days to the wedding mark! We are doing the bach. party early because a few girls who have kids wanted to do it before school starts. My girlfriends planned everything and I have no idea what they have in store for me. I am soooo looking forward to a fun weekend away!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
