Mom's Veil - Whatcha think

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies:

So I was talking with my mom the other day, and she mentioned that she still had her dress and veil from when she and my dad were married some 40+ years ago. She told me the story of when my sister got married and tried on my mom's dress, but it didn't fit (my mom had a 23" waist when she got married... that b**ch... just kidding... love my mommy!!!)

But, she did say that the veil (or the comb) was pretty, but might be a little dated. She sent me a photo this morning. Clearly she was married in the 60s.

I was thinking of going really simple - a simple veil that had a bit of piping around the edges, and some tiny flowers in my hair. But seeing mom's veil (or the comb, anyway - the veil itself would probably have to be redone), I'm wondering if I should use the flower-y part. It would be pretty neat to have my mom's veil, and I think she would be touched.

That being said, it's pretty dated in appearance, and really isn't my style.

So, what do you think? I figure I'm going to lose the veil shortly after the 20 minute ceremony anyway....

Alternatively, she also has three hair pins that have little rhinestone flowers on them that she's sending me - I don't have any photos, but I COVETED the hair pins as a little girl.

becks, i voted go for the hair pins! the veil isn't your style and you have always wanted to wear the hair pins - they will have a lot more meaning for you on your wedding day.

i wouldn't wear the veil just like i wouldn't compromise having a wedding at home "to make other people feel happy"

I agree. Your mum will understand and it sounds like the hair pins have special meaning, too, so I would go with that.

If you like the veil of the comb WEAR IT! Your mom will be so happy you did. However, if you really don't feel comfortable wearing them, she will also understand. I offered my daughther my veil, and she gracefully declined, I was sad for about half a second but got over it quite fast. All that matters to me as a mother is that she is happy.

I say hair pins for the same reasons as the others.

As for the veil, can you incorporate it some other way? It really is unique and festive looking. Are you having a flower girl that can wear it?

Or even detaching the star design and using it somehow...

maybe to place a votive/hurricane on at the guest book table?

Or maybe hang the whole veil from the back of your dinner chair as decoration (like how some people have a "bride" sign?)

It is a little dated, but still cool and would be nice to stick in there somewhere!

becca, how cool of your mom! i can see from the photo and knowing you that it is totally not your style --- i think the hair pins have much more meaning to you, and if you dont like the veil and/or it can't really be modified to change it so you do like it, i think your mom will be really happy that you're wearing the hair pins. you know my thing about veils, so... haha.

I am saving my veil (but it was a very simple veil) for my daughter. I have to say I think its really sweet and if possible would you consider finding out if you could "fix" up the veil to be more your style. If all else fails I love the hair pins idea. Knowing you have something that your mom wore when she married your dad will make your day extra special.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
