My appointment was brief because they don't do full PT at student health. But, hey it was free & may be all I need.

Here is what I learned:

My legs are the same length, but one appears shorter because my hips are out of alignment. From hip to ankle the length is the same, but from belly button to ankle it's different. So a lift in the shoe won't help. I need to correct the alignment.

the pain in my hip is probably a bursitis (sp?). Like when you aggrivate your shoulder. I need to let it rest & ice it.

I need to stengthen my hips & losen up my tight IT band (the muscle that runs from the hip to the knee.)

I have had problems with a tight IT band before. The tops of my knees hurt when i did aerobics. The way my instructor told me to stretch is was wrong & I was actually making it tighter.

I'm going to work on my core more. I do pilates, but I'm going to start doing some yoga too. I need to lay off the pilates moves that could aggrivate my hip for a while so I'll do more core instead. I'm going to do my exercises for my hip & stretch my IT band often. I'm also going to shift myself to stand up straight when I can think about it. Oh & no more slouching.

I'm also getting good arch supports for my shoes. My arch looks high, but I feel flat footed & have to wear really comfortable shoes. She said my arch goes away when I stand.

It was a lot of fun learning so much about myself in a quick appoitment. I now understand why I have certain pain & know some things I can do to prevent it. I'm going back later for my back. It seems like the hip thing is more about my back than legs.

Ok I can't stress enough how much good Chiros can do. Probably b/c my DH IS a chiro. If you want more information (for free) of course he can let you know what they can do to help your situation.

All through my childhood I was so so so sick always constantly. I have seen every kind of doctor there is. I was on so many pills its still causing problems now. Since being with my DH and him adjusting me I haven't been sick once. B/C my spine is misaligned it messes up my nervous system which gives me symptoms of being sick. All the doctors did was give me pills to stop they symptoms. Such as saying I had a cold when I didn't. I love my Chiro!!! I love holistic approaches to medicine. I'd much rather get treated to find the problem then take pills to treat symptoms.

Now this is no way says never go to a doctor. Sometimes medicine is the right way and you definitely should see a MD. But Chiro's get such a bad rap sometimes and they can help so much!!! I for one LOOOOVE MINE *wink*

I totally agree with an ostiopathic approach to treating illness. So many problems can be addressed through exercise, nutrition, or just eliminating a bad behaviour. I always try to fix the problem instead of treating it. I wanted to find the cause of my hip pain, not take anti inflamatories to relieve the pain. I also wanted to fix it to keep it from becoming a big problem. I prefer preventative health, not treatments. But, I also know sometimes medicine is necessary. My goal is just to take as little as possible while still maintaining my health.

I feel pretty confident that these suggestions will help me a lot. The thing she said about my IT band was right on. It's the cause of so much pain. Now I know how to stretch is right. Everytime it hurt, I was making it worse with the wrong stretch.

If your husband has any advice for me I'd love to hear it. I'll do all my rehab stuff & update y'all on how it's working.

I admit, I did giggle at this thread title! I have one leg shorter. Mostly because of not being aligned. I do have mild scoliosis. Whenever I used to play pool or when I attempt darts (only play well when drinking a lot), I blame any aim issues on my short leg.

Also, very random, my friend gave me an Elmo doll that spells his name...E..L..M..O. And then he says, Elmo's glad he has a short name. however, my FI and I had been out drinking and it sounded like, "Elmo's glad he has a short leg! (as in 3rd leg?)" We laughed until we were crying. Like, I said, random! So, "short leg" makes me giggle!

I love that you blame it on your short leg. I think almost everyone has a little case of restless leg syndrome sometimes. I get it if I've stayed up too late or if I sit too long. I didn't know it was a syndrome until I saw a commercial. So I like to blame stuff on my RLS. If mike is pestering me I'll yell, "you are activating my RLS!" So since I've been thinking more about my short leg lately I will tell him not to activate the RLS in my short leg.

There is an Elmo that sings twist & shout and he says something like "cut the foot off elmo." It was something an angry employee snuck in. Poor elmo with a short leg & no feet.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
