Mine said the same! She also said she doesn't make any money on airfare.

Thanks everyone for the info. I've been working with Christina, and so far she has been very prompt and thorough BUT my wedding is next summer (2011) and reading some of these posts has made me a little nervous. For those of you who have had a positive experience, could you PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE disclose the name of your TA so I can request her just in case?

I was referred to Destination Weddings by my FI co-worker. So far she's been very helpful. They require a $50 deposit which is applied to your balance and guarantee that they have the best price. If you find your package cheaper elsewhere, they'll match it. They don't charge you or your guest anything. They make their money from the hotels and airlines. I'm still in the early process of wedding planning. I haven't picked a resort yet. I will update as the process moves along. Hope this was helpful :) If you have any further questions I'll be more than happy to answer.

I've been using DW.com and also feel the TA is a bit slow with getting quotes from the locations requested. She's very prompt at responding emails but not with getting quote amounts. It took almost 2 weeks for the one quote which was way over the cost guests could afford. I also thought that they were wedding coordinators that could possibly help with advice on different locations that is less costly but they're not. I've been planning for the last two months and haven't gotten anywhere yet. I'm actually going to go through a TA here locally that a family member used and thought was great and pretty much handle finding the locations myself.

I've been noticing that my TA (Edward) only responds in a timely manner when I request information regarding resorts that he is pushing for. I have a feeling that I may be switching at some point or not using them at all considering I seem to be doing a great deal of the leg work and all he does is give me quotes on hotels I've already researched myself.

I bet we have the same one...if you can, CHANGE. Don't feel bad, this is your wedding and you need to have someone that you feel confident will take care of things for you. And you're paying for this. I wish I would have switched but now it's too late, but believe me, when it's all over I'll be calling DW.com to let them know how unhappy i was with her.

  • 2 weeks later...

I was working with a DW specialist, and I switched to a local TA. I felt like my DWS was a waste of $50. Every couple of weeks she would send me something saying that she's "still getting packages together" and I would just laugh because I knew she wasn't doing anything. I only asked for info on 3 resorts, and my TA got all of that info within a week! So why it took DW 8 weeks to get it is beyond me. And every time she'd email (she called me when I first joined, and never called me again), she'd try to push for another resort.

Then, when she finally sent me the info from the resorts I requested, the pricing was DOUBLE what my TA had sent us and what was on the resorts' websites. So, even though I already was booking through my TA, I emailed my DWS and asked her why there was such a discrepancy between her prices and what was on the website. She responded that she knew the owner of the resort personally and would get in touch and let me know. Over a week later, and still haven't heard from her again.

Basically, my take on DW.com after reading this forum and having personal experience, is that they work for specific resorts only. If you want your wedding at one of those resorts, they will be great and you'll really enjoy working with them. But if the resorts you are interested in aren't listed on their website, then save your $50 and don't try to work with them! I felt my DWS did everything in her power to discourage me from booking at a resort that isn't one of their "preferred resorts", from quoting prices that were double what the resort charges, to taking 8 weeks to respond and telling me that it was because the resort was non-responsive (which is ridiculous because my resort has never taken longer than 5 hours to respond to anything, from the first email), to pushing their resorts and telling me that they're a better match for what I want.

Oh! And my DWS knew that I would have 70-80 guests and pushed me towards Azul Beach. We fell in love with the resort, then found out from their website that they have a max of 50 for weddings. When I told her that she had NO IDEA! That really frustrated me as well, to have a DWS that didn't even know these details about her resorts.

One thing I didn't know was that they aren't coordinators. I figured out that they're just TAs after I paid the deposit. Had I known that I probably wouldn't have used them but it's working out fine for me so far.
i like my girl and I am going one year using them now. its not really the person you work with thats the problem its when they have to send things to the groups department and stuff it takes longer. I am in the waiting game with the groups department.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
