Why do you consider Dreams Cancun to be the 'safer' choice?? Just curious.

How do prices for Dreams, Grand XCaret, Grand Palladium and Moons compare??

I feel like I'm making progress!!! But maybe it's an illusion.

Maybe safer was not the best word. more Self Reassuring is probably a better term. The reason it that there is more information and more reviews and more brides out there that say Dreams Cancun is a wonderful place to get married. That doesn't mean that the OGX isn't though. Dreams resorts in general just from this forum alone have such a great reputation. The good news is that I haven't read a BAD review on weddings at the OGX I just haven't read more than a handful of good reviews either.

As far as prices go, don't quote me on any of this, I haven't looked into the pricing since I was trying to decide on a resort which was a couple months ago. I'm pretty sure OGX is the least expensive out of the four resorts you mentioned than probably Dreams and than the other two. BUT you also have to look at the wedding packages that each resort offers because Dreams offers a free wedding as long as you book one room for 6 or 7 nights I think, whereas OGX offers a free wedding as long as you book 10 higher end rooms for at least 4 nights I believe. Counting on at least 10 of our guests booking more expensive rooms for at least 4 nights would be really hard for us, so really even though Dreams per room per night might be more expensive at the end of the day with a free wedding it could end up being less expensive if that makes sense. If I were looking into a wedding in Cancun than I would seriously consider Dreams as my top contender. We really feel like the Riviera Maya area is more out style though. And from what I have read about the OGX, the resort is amazing with a river running through the lobby and a real green lush landscape with a variety of different tropical animals roaming around! To me this sounds right up our alley, it really all depends on your own personal style.

Hope the rambling helped a little :)

I know! Their beach is such a bummer, I swear this is the only reason why most brides dont choose this resort. I mean really at the end of the day if you dont live right next to the beach than you are obviously going to the carribean to enjoy the beach!

Have you checked out any of the other Occidentals. There is the Occidental Grand Cozumel which I believe has a nice beach and then there is the Allegro wich is in the RM also (I think) and Valerie is getting married there shortly, I think January 23 or something.

My FI and I are going down for a site visit in September and we are staying at OGX but only because my AmEx points allowed us to stay there for free. We hadn't actually considered it as a location for our reception (we will have a church ceremony) because of the man-made beach (we are definite beach people) but the reception set-up looks nice. I guess I will have to add this place to the list.

Hi Jackie!

I decided against OGX because of the fake beach, but in the photos I saw ocean! Do people mean that there's just a lack of sand to bake on? Do they let you swim in those waters beyond the palapas?

I just realized that these posts are really old and that your wedding must have come and gone by now...First of all, Congratulations! and second, How did it go? Did you find that people were disappointed by the lack of beach?

Thanks,

Emilie

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
