Wedding DVD Poll

Recommended Posts

We're trying to figure out what to do with videography... so, if you already had your wedding, did you hire a professional, have friends do it, or skip it? Would you change anything?

For those of you who are still planning, which do you think you will do?

I am so nervous. I just booked and will be paying in a few days for the video lady. Actually the Photographer's wife! I have only seen his work which is nice but I havent seen hers. I requested a sample and he said that she'd have it done in a few weeks. But meanwhile, I dont think i can get my $$$ back once I pay. I am very worried but I think that its essential to get a DVD since none of my family will be there. I just dont have much choice in Fiji.

funny heidi b/c i called a videographer today. i really just want someone with a good eye to take the raw footage of our ceremony and the cocktail hour and then give it to us to edit and cut but i am not sure how likely that is. also the island i am getting married on is so small there is only ONE videographer available - yes that is who i left a message for - i could always fly someone from another hawaiian island but the $$$ starts piling up so we will see his qualifications. as for a friend or family member i don't want to impose and i want all of my guests to enjoy everything and not have 'jobs'

I hired a team of 2 HD videographers who I am flying down to Riviera Maya b/c their package including the travel expenses was cheaper than the local videographer's equivalent package. We're kind of spending more than I would want, but I don't really know anyone personally with this high end of equipment, and I know that consumer video cameras don't provide ideal picture and sound.

For my sister's wedding many years ago, my friend borrowed a 3 chip professional video camera from her work and shot the wedding. Luckily a guest was also shooting it for fun, so there was a lot of coverage. I ended up cutting it on Final Cut Pro, and both sets of footage had problems (shakey camera, cut-off heads, dropped frames, missing moments, etc). I did manage to cut together a great wedding video, if I do say so myself, but it took FOREVER (because I wanted something original and I'm a perfectionist). So I think the videographers' work is worth something (maybe not as much as I'm paying ugh!) My package includes the raw HD footage in addition to an edited video, so if I hate it I guess I can go back and edit my own version someday...

We hired. I didn't want family/friends to spend their time during the wedding filming. I didn't want to spend a lot either, so BVP just did raw footage. It wasn't the greatest quality ever, but it captured the day and that's all I really wanted. I've meant to edit it, but just haven't gotten around to it. We have watched it several times though- just a couple weeks ago actually. Would I do it again? Absolutely. I'm ssoooooo glad I have a video because the day really goes by so fast. I actually wish I would have kept him around for more of the reception.

I voted professional but we also had some guests who took their own videos (we didn't ask them to, they just did). The pro one came out fine. It isn't the best out there I'm sure, but we're not big into that stuff so it suited our purpose.

The best thing about having friends' videos is that they catch things the pro doesn't, because the pro can't be in 3 places at once. So watching each video we get completely different background conversations/views. It's pretty cool wink.gif

2 of my bridesmaid's husbands have offered to video. Reggie did my brother's & my cousin's wedding videos, and they both turned out GREAT, and are exactly what I want! So we're thinking of having the 2 guys video and Reggie will take the raw footage and make it look fabulous.

Plus, if we did video, we'd have to hire the resort photographer and we're not using him for pics, so it could get nasty! rolleyes.gif

But thanks a lot for all of the feedback! Very helpful!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
