Stomach Problems.....

I just found out that my stomach aches that I have had since I was in High School is most likely because I am Lactose Intolerant. So Now I am freaking out because it is a total life change. Is anyone else Lactose and Intolerant and have suggestions? I have also heard that Soy Milk is more fattening that regular milk? Is this true?

My MOH is L/I. She manages just fine, and actually after several years, the problem seems to be subsiding a bit.

She carries lactaid tablets, and drinks skim lactaid milk. So look into the calories there, too.

My DH discovered he was lactose intolerant shortly after we started dating..

He still enjoys dairy (no glasses of milk or milkshakes) but loves his cheese. He just takes a lactaid pill (uses generic from Costco) with his first bite and is usually fine.. sometimes the gas is pretty funky but it isn't a huge deal. I keep his pills in my purse and he also keeps some in his vehicles incase he's out.

I have iritable bowl and I believe that dairy helps stir it up...but I haven't yet changed the way I eat because of that because I love milk and dairy products...I just deal with it and all the people who know me know that I may just have to leave at the split of a dime to take care of business...

i know this doesn't help much but I'm just lazy. I would suggest though not being lazy like me and maybe lookin into the pills the girls mentioned or other methods to make the impact not so bad....

LI is not that difficult to work with. In my experience, most people can still enjoy dairy in small quantities. Maybe not fettucini alfredo once a week, but...

The Lactaid tablets really do help. I'm a chef so if you would like me to suggest some recipes or revamp some of your favorites I would be more than happy to!

Also, next time you go to the doctor, if changing you diet doesn't help, have your gall bladder checked. I was sick for about 3.5 years before the dr. figured out I had a diseased gall bladder and needed it removed. I tried every drug and diet imagineable! Since it was taken out I've had no more problems!

FI and i are both lactose intolerant, although he is worse than me. i get serious stomach problems if i drink milk, but i'm fine with cheese. we switched to Lactose free milk and now FI loves milk. We keep lactaid caplets handy, and my FI loves chocolate milkshakes, so we keep caplets in the car in case he goes to McD's randomly. It's really not a huge lifestyle change -- at least it hasnt been for us. The lactose free milk is slightly more expensive, but not a ton. Also, I notice if I buy Horizon organic milk, I have absolutely no problem processing it. I think my lactose intolerance stems from drinking milk from cows that had been given growth hormones and chemicals and junk in the milk. But that's just my theory... The Horizon organic milk also stays better longer than the regular hormone filled milk too.

I have IBS too.. I keep immodium with me (actually generic from Costco) but at the first slight gurgle which usually happens while eating, I take half an immodium and the "urge" usually goes away...

My IBS seems to come and go. Sometimes I can eat anything and everything but when I was first diagnosed, I couldn't eat or even brush my teeth before 10:00am or I'd be sick for most of the day.

Lactaid milk makes a Fat-free milk as well as regular. If you can handle the taste of skim milk then Lactaid fat-free shouldn't taste any different.

In some people as you age, you start to lose the enzymes lactase used to to break down sugar (lactose ) found in milk ect. Some people still have more than others and can tolerate using Lactaid pills found in most pharmacies. Some say it doesn't work for them. It is prevalent in some ethnic groups but anyone can be affected by it.

You just have to see which dairy products you can tolerate without discomfort some people can eat only certain cheese, some can eat ice cream just fine.

My hubby is lactose intolerant and lately I've given up milk altogether. I never LOVED it. And I've been reading up on it as I'm going more natural. We are the only mammals that drink another mammals bodily fluids.(by choice) b/c I know other animals do but only b/c we give it to them...ewwww. I can get my calcium somewhere else thanks. If you still want milk I'd go with others suggested organic or soy or even rice milk. Just my 2 cents wink.gif

ya you should really try with some of that lactaid milk or the tablets. i have several who manage just fine with those pills.

that reminds me of a quote though of my favorite comedian Jim Gaffigan. " mannnn i think im lactose intolerant... i just had 4 milk shakes and i feel like crap" HAHAHAHA

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
