Labor Day weekend wedding???

Recommended Posts

So, I have been awaiting my reply from Dreams as to whether the date that I want is available and of course, it's not. There are so many conflicts with our wedding party and the only other date that we think could actually work is Sunday August 31st, which is Labor Day weekend. I'm worried that it's kind of imposing on people to have it then. What does everyone think? Has anyone had a wedding on a holiday like that? One perk is one extra day in the sun without having to worry about work! Any input would be great!

Dawn :)

Honestly I am really torn on this subject. I actually feel in some ways it's great because people don't HAVE to take vacation (or as much) to attend. But then at the same time sometimes people plan other vacations or events for these long weekends. Overall if it's a destination wedding (which obvy yours is!) I think it's great! However I have a wedding to go to locally over a long weekend and I'm annoyed because I would have liked to go out of town! So I guess my vote is...

Destination Wedding = great idea!

Local wedding = too imposing

One thing you may want to think about is flights. They could easily be more expensive or less available. Other than that, I agree that the extra vacation day may help your guests out a lot. But I would go ahead and let the guests know, b/c some people make plans for their holiday/vacation time off well in advance!

We had ours the weekend before Thanksgiving and many people commented positively that it was easier to get the time off work bc people were expected to be out around the holiday. Several took full advantage and stayed a few days after too.

The flights were a bit trickier, but as long as you do your save the date well in advance, I think you'll be fine.

I think if you go for it you need to get Save the Dates out now. A lot of people I know take a vacation every year that weekend. Some people may have already made plans. FI's brother is getting married Memorial Day weekend and we had to change our standing "begining of summer lake house party" plans.

I think that its a great idea, but only because it's a DW. For an at home wedding, it forces people to give up a weekend when they could have gone away, but for a DW - it gets them away.

So, get your STDs out fast, and it will be great!!!

Sometimes it does get "touchy" when there are weddings on Holidays only b/c plans conflict and people get all nuts. But those people who truly want to be there with you, won't let a Holiday weekend (that happens every year) interfer with your wedding, and their the people you want there anyway.

This is a DW so it actually isn't too bad of an idea so I'd go for it. I ran into date issues as well and it is SUCH A PAIN so don't drive yourself crazy. Pick a date a go with it...it will a great time either way!

  • 3 weeks later...

Yes, my fiance and I have just decided to do our destination wedding the week of Thanksgiving. Most of my friends and family were more excited about it then our Feb date since most would already have 2 days off that week. It saves some money from going the busy season and also vacation time.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
