Okay, A little Worried...

Recommended Posts

Alright, I know that this is wayyyy too early to be freaking out, but I need a little help.

SO, I want to use the ROR for my wedding. 2 of my extended family members had their wedding there and it went off without a hitch. I can't say the same thing for the Sandals weddings in the family, but RIU (both in Ochy and Negril) have done wonderful jobs in dealing with our crazy clan.... Anywhoo, I digress...

I went online and checked into a date, oct 4th and it said it was available. 2 days later, I get a confirmation of it's availablity. I called the travel agent who booked the last 2 weddings there and she insists on checking out the RItz as well. Ok. She says that she is checking it out at the RIU. It has now been a week and nobody has taken money from me for anything, so I am afraid that I am gonna lose my spot. Is that possible?

Do I have to pay for the package that I choose now? How do I go about reserving a private reception (I have 62 guests, including 10 children, that are confirmed and ready to put down deposits or are staying offsite or live there and a huge amount of folks that haven't even been invited yet)?

I know that it is too early to speak to Chandlyn, but what do I do? I want to lock things down so that I can start sending out Save the Dates and start making plans. What do I do??

Ok, I'm gonna try to answer your questions in the order that you posted. As long as you got a confirmation from the Wedding Dept, you should be good. You're not going to lose anything because money isn't taken from you until you get there & meet with Chandlyn. When you meet with Chandlyn that is when you pay for your package, reception, decorations, etc.

For your reception, you can contact Chandlyn and let her know which restaurant you would like to reserve & the time that you would like. She will let you know if its available.

For now you can contact the Wedding Department just to re-confirm your date & time and make sure that it is available. Here is her contact information:

Carolina Miranda

America's Division

Phone: + (52) 984 877 23 20

Email: [email protected]

Once you do that & your date/time is confirmed, then send Chandlyn an email asking her about your reception.

Here's her contact info:

Chandlyn Edwards

(876) 972 22 00

[email protected]

All the ROR brides hear how busy Chandlyn because of the amount of weddings that she handles in one day. Because of that she is a bit slow to respond to emails, especially when your wedding date is far out. Once your date is near, she is very good about responding quickly.

I think you should be fine as long as you confirm your date. I hope this helps!

Thanks all!! I am glad that SOMEONE knows something. The more people (again, my family making me nuts) tell me that they need to know information, the less I think that I know.

Thanks again. I feel better now. I will call the wedding sales department and move from there.

I am actually using Michelle at Liberty Travel. I think that she is swamped, but I just needed/wanted some kind of confirmation. A simple, "Ok. Your wedding is a go for oct 4th. Feel free to send out invitations now."

No problem. Your concerns are perfectly understandable. You'll see that all of the past & future Riu brides are great and have learned so much from each other & no one ever has a problem sharing that info.

Oh, make sure to go to the Jamaica section & you will see tons of posts about ROR. There's alot of info in them. Happy reading.

Hey, I wouldnt worry too much, once you booked your date and get the confirmation you will be ok. I would also go so far as to put the deposit down for the trip once youre 100% sure, that way there's no doubt on their part. The only reason I say this is because I know from time to time slots become available because they tell you to keep contacting them to see if spaces open up and Im pretty sure people dont call in to cancel....could be just me I always try to err on the side of caution....Marlon

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
