Dress shopping. Solo?

Recommended Posts

Any suggestions for dress shopping when you have no (nearby) family and little to no friends. I can't wait to try on my first wedding dress and have an appointment at David's on Friday after work. Problem is, I'm in Philly, and my family and bestfriends are in NY. I am very close to my mother & my sister is my Matron of honor.I know these two cities are not far apart. But I really wanted to avoid weekend dress shopping. Should I just cancel and plan a long NYC weeked to dress shop? or do some on my own? I know this experince will be a little overwhelming, not sure if i could or should do it solo.

I actually preferred going by myself - I didn't like the idea of women fussing all over me. It was faster, I tried on what I wanted, got in, and got out! Also, I didn't have the impact of other people's reactions to sway my own opinion, ya know? After I narrowed it down to 2 I brought a friend, but I had pretty much already decided anyway!

The local salon actually encouraged me to go alone because she's seen so many girls love a dress just to have their well meaning family/friends rip it apart or nit pick..

It won't be as "fun" but might give you a good idea of the style of dress that looks great on you (have your dress helper take photos, front and back) that you can review later.

You won't feel as stressed or hurried to get through your dress selections.

Then you can plan a bigger trip and not feel as much frustration about not loving anything.. OR you find the dress of your dreams and you get to show it off to them.

I actually went by myself just last week and it was great! I went another time w/ my whole family and seriously it was really overwhelming!! Just make sure you bring a camera with you so you can look at the pics later! I forgot mine the first time and had to go back to get it! Good Luck - you will be fine.

I took my mom, but only because I knew I would need help deciding on the final one. I ended up with 2 I really liked, very similar in style, and she helped me choose. I'm very happy with what I ended up with, and we had a great time, but that's just me.

I've actually gone to 3 dress shops by myself and once with my mother. I've gone with three other friends dress shopping for their weddings, and it gets kinda crazy, everybody telling their opinions. It was nice to be able to pick out a couple of dresses, and now that my friends schedules will allow, I will have them go with me to give opinions, but I've pretty much already decided on my dress myself!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
