Need Opinions - Reception Bar - Special Circumstance...

Recommended Posts

We are having our reception on a lawn at the Beach. we are going to do a Laua Buffett with lanterns, tiki torches and mini lights. have not decided on music.

this particular resort is not legally allowed to sell alcohol on the beach due to some particular hawiian code viloation.

this means that FI and I can provide all of the liquor and we pay the resort a $250 bar set up fee and a bartender $45 per hour to serve the alcohol.

i am thinking of having (for 40 people):

1.5 cases white wine

.5 case red wine

3 or 4 cases beer

sodas, juice and bottled water

coffee and tea will be included in the buffet

do you think it is a big deal not to have liquor and just wine and beer?

do you think we should have 1 signature drink? if so, what?

Maybe all my friends and family are a bunch of drunks, but I think you might be light on the quantities. If you assume that 1 bottle of wine = 5 glasses, then 2 cases of wine plus 4 cases of beer, then you've got 168 drinks in total.

Then, if you assume people drink 2-3 drinks per hour, you've got 40 guests - let's assume they drink a non-alcoholic bev once every 3 drinks (so 2 alcoholic per hour) - you've got 80 alcoholic drinks per hour, or roughly 2 hours worth of alcohol.

Like I said, my friends may be a bunch of lushes, but I'd increase your quantities.

And I LOVE the idea of a signature bev. Go with something tropical that can be served on the rocks (so no need for a blender) maybe MaiTais or a fruit punch with booze (2 parts cranberry, 3 parts orange and 1 part pineapple with either (a) champagne or (B) soda water and vodka is YUMMY).

i was thinking maybe i was light on the quanitites - we have about half heavy drinkers and half people who don't really drink at all so i thought maybe that would balance out.

do you think i should go heavier on wine or beer?

and if i add the signature drink, can i keep the wine and beer where it is?

thanks!

I think my people are drunks too because I would at least triple that - but my Italian family drinks wine like water so it could be us. For the "average" drinking crowd I would go heavier on the beer, but if you have a wine crowd do the opposite.

You could do a really cool signature drink to match your color scheme, that would be festive!

yeah wine is probably more this crowd than beer.

i don't really have wedding colors.

all of my paper products and my logo are in the teal / turquoise / light blue family but that is as far as i am carrying it through (at this point)

i am thinking of magenta BM dresses, white parasols for the girls and a boquet of magenta orchids for me.

i am going to go google some speciality hawaiian cocktails

I like the idea of a signature drink in the color, we are going to have all the regular B, W and L, but we will also serve a Blue Hawaiian, since our main color is aqua/turquoise.

1 oz Smirnoff Orange Vodka

1 oz Blue Curacao

2 oz OJ

1 oz pineapple juice

1 slice orange

Enjoy over ice.

Try theBar.com for searching drink recipes by event, etc. Cool site!

I think you have the right idea. Wine and beer with the resorts provided beverages are good. I especially like the idea of a special drink for your day. You could make up a name, have a pretty sign, etc... That would be a good way to add one more drink option. To make it simple I would say to choose a drink with only one alcohol.

i just found this one on Roy's website... now i have to find out if i can get these ingrediants on Molokai (there is one 1 store!)

The Original Hawaiian Martini

Roy's put this delectable creation on the map.

In classic Hawaiian fashion, our Maui pineapples are infused

in SKYY Vodka, Stoli Vanil Vodka and Malibu Coconut Rum.

Shaken and served with a fresh pineapple.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
