Cycling Class

There is a Cycling Orientation next Sunday at the gym ... but you have to pre-register.

 

Do any of you do the cycling classes? I have heard they are pretty intense so I wonder if it will be too much for me.

 

A friend of mine used to do it but said his butt would be really sore from the seat?

I bought a seat cushion. You can get them at sporting goods stores. Other people wear padded shorts. I didn't like the way those felt. But, you definitly need some tight shorts or pants.

 

The classes are intense. I was doing aerobics often, but I felt wiped out when I starte spinning. Usually they have heart rate monitors. Know the zone you want your rate to be in before you go. For me, if I got above 180, I new to really slow it down. After a while the classes got much easier. Definitly give it a shot. It's a great workout.

 

Oh, another thing. If you want to take it easy at first, don't add much resistance to the bike. That's a great way to still do it all, but not overdo it.

Cool, I'm guessing the Orientation is for other spinning 'newbies' like me ... but I think I would definitely want a seat cushion even for the first class.

I can already feel my butt hurting just thinking about it.

I have always wanted to try a cycling class, but didn't have faith in myself to do it.

It hurt a lot at first, but stopped hurting after a while. I guess I got tough It wasn't as much my butt as it was my inner thighs. The seat cushion was less than $10. Once you really get into it, you might want to get the clip in shoes. They make it easier to control the bike. You also get to pull, not just push.

My gym closed so I haven't been to spinning in a while. I do miss it. I wonder if I have to recondition my thighs to handle the pain?

That class was torture! My and legs hurt for days! Good luck, I haven't been brave enough to try it again.

I'm not going to lie to you, the first time me and my friend did it, we left the room feeling like we were going to puke any minute.

 

The seat definetly hurts your butt, both while you're doing the workout and after, but after going a couple of times the seat didn't bother me at all.

 

It is a very intense workout, but SOOO worth it! My legs and butt were in such good shape the year that I was spinning. I used to try to do it 1-2 times a week along with other aerobic workouts.

 

It really is a great class and even if you feel totally horrible after your first class, make yourself go back. It really does get easier after just going a couple of times.

i've done spinning for about 7 years now and I love it. I guess it depends on where you take the classes at but most instructors will coach you on the intensity of your workout. If you are a beginner they'll let you "work up to" adding more and more restistance to the bike. I think it's a great workout, especially those like myself with no rhythm to do step or dance type classes. my toosh doesn't hurt, after a couple of classes it should go away.

Okay, I'm trying to get inspired! I will at least go to the orientation class! :-) It will be a good way to not feel guilty for overindulging a few hours later -- for SuperBowl Sunday!!!
