Vote - DJ or IPOD???

Recommended Posts

get that family member with the great voice to emcee. We will most likely get the radio ipod and and hook it to speakers. Only 30 or less people. Besides our taste ranges from Etta James to Old Dirty Bastard and everything in between, Miles DAvis John Coltrane. Beyonce etc so we do not expect to find a dj that can play all of that

Who's your DJ? That sounds really high.. our DJ was great.. so much fun and was technical, everything was just a download away.. Yes I could have had an iPod going but it was so great not to worry about the music.. go to the man with the mic if you want to request something. He set up our first dance song and even cut it short for us.. gave us the queue to dip even..

we paid $225/hr so his rates may have gone up a bit but DJ Richie (Richardo) is so great. We stayed in touch after the wedding.. really a nice guy that loves what he does..

A DJ isn't necessary but unless you have someone you want to man the iPod, I would have someone dedicated to the music.. he also set up the sounds/microphone for the ceremony which I wouldn't have done without.

His contact info should be in our review.. make sure to tell him I said "hello" I'm sure he'd like to know the BDW girls are still around.

Hi Lucy, I'm in exactly the same boat ! We will have roughly 30 guests and we are paying for the "ultimate package" and also requesting quite a few of the extras. If you decide to go for the DJ will you have the dance floor too ? I really can't justify paying the hourly rate for the DJ and the dance floor ect... Do you know if there is somewhere we can dace without having to pay extra for the dance floor, also how does the I POD work ? the IPOD speakers would surly not be loud enough ? Sorry for bombarding you with questions LOL

Personally, we decided to go with the ipod and spend our money for a steel pan player (since we're getting married in Aruba). Also, we weren't sure what type of selection the DJ would have, and since we're both picky about our music we thought it would be a safer (and more economical) bet to go with our ipod and steel drum player.

I would vote iPod. I've seen my brother in-law provide music for family parties (between 30-100 people) with using his iPod, radio transmitter, and the hotel's radio. I'm sure you can find a way to get it done. I know some reception places won't let anyone touch there stuff, call them and find out.

Hi there, maybe a dumb question but I'm not that great with technology LOL
I'm assuming that you wouldn't use the small speakers for the IPOD and hook it up to a bigger / better sound system @ the hotel ?

  • 2 weeks later...

We skipped out on the DJ. I found out that the DJ we were going to have didn't speak english, and that the Emceeing would be done by the weddin planning committee. I just spent 5 hours going through songs on Itunes last night, and so far have all the music for cocktail hour, dinner hour, and most of the reception. I love music, so I don't mind taking the time to put it together. Plus, I am super picky about music, and I heard the DJ down there has pretty outdated music. I am having around 50 people. We ordered a sound system through our wedding coordinator.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
