Why can't I lose weight faster!!! :(

So I started eating better and exercising alot (for me) on january 5th and I weigh myself on saturdays..I am only down 3 lbs (barely). I had hoped that with eating less, eating more fiber and protein, and working out 4 days of week and one of those days w/ a trainer that I would loose at least 2 lbs a week! sad.gif

I did go to Vegas last weekend, but I thought I did pretty well eating and drinking and I got sick (from drinking because I didn't eat) so that should have helped! sad.gif

I know it takes time and patience...but it's discouraging! sad.gif

Is anyone else having this problem?

michelle - are you doing any set program? the reason i ask is cause i always thought i wasnt eating much until i started doing weight watchers and counting everything. i had no idea how many calories i was eating, even when i thought i was being good.

otoh some people are just slow losers or slow starters. do you watch the biggest loser? i cant believe those two gals in their 20s - losing 2-4 lbs a week with all that work they are doing? do you think your metabolism is slow? dont get discouraged. i know hard to do. the best reward is seeing that scale go down but are you losing inches? it will come off just hold steady!!!

or could it be youre not eating enough?

don't worry Michelle, it takes time. I bet you if you stay consistent, next week or the week after that the lbs. will be shedding away. You'll start dropping lbs., but then you'll plateau...then you'll have to change your routine. At least that's what I've noticed for myself. If all else fails cut out the sugars, anything white, and drink a lot of water...that's what I plan to do 2 weeks before the wedding.

Michelle, do you weigh yourself first thing in the morining?? I notice that there is a 2 lbs difference when I weigh myself at night vs the morning.

Also, you may be gaining muscle if you are working out. How do you feel in your clothes??

i hate weighing myself...it just gets me depressed if I'm heavier than what I think I am...then I spiral into eating bad. I just go be my jeans.

I always tried to lose weight on my own but like Leigh said until I joined WW I didn't realize how badly I really was eating.

Also a pound a week is healthy and normal. Especially if you don't have a whole lot to lose. Those people on the weight loss shows are losing enourmous amounts of weight because they are working out like 3 times a day and being monitored 24 hours a day.

If you are working out, DO NOT weight yourself!!!

I am sure you are losing inches! I have only lost 6 pounds since joining WW a week and a half ago and I work out 4-5 days a week. BUT, my pants are loose and I even wore a pair of jeans on Friday that fit perfect that I never wore before because they were SO tight!!!

I am insulin resistant and have hypothyroidism, so weight comes off a little slower for me, but it will happen.

And...you are getting healthy and that is so much more important than a number on the scale!

Oh and make sure you change your routine every few days. You need to shock your body so it doesn't get in to the same routine. If you normally do treadmill, switch it up and do elliptical or bike!

michelle - do you count calories?

weight loss is always a simple math equation - calories in / calories out UNLESS you have a slow matabolism, thryoid issue or medical reason.

i agree with the other girls, most of don't realize what we are eating until we start tracking EVERY calorie /bite. also - you may not be eating enough - if you do not eat at least 1200/1300 calories a day you won't lose weight b/c your body will go into starvation mode

michelle - do you count calories?I kinda count in my head...but not on paper and I know that is very important. I have dieted most of my life so I do have a good idea of how many calories are in most everything...I have been trying to eat about 1200-1400 calories a day and have been staying in that range.

That is good you have lost that much in only a week and a half!!! I was able to button a pair of jeans that I hadn't been able to for a while, still tight but buttoned so I do understand that i am probably gaining some muscle...

I have done ww in the past and it really is the only thing that has worked before...i just wanted to try and eat more protein since working out more but I think i am going to do both...eat my 6 meals a day w/ added protein and fiber and count points and the fiber of course will help that!

That is why I get depressed and it sucks...i weigh myself every morning and as much as i threaten to hide the scale...and do it like once a week...i don't!

So of course i got an i told you so from FI!! ;(

Thanks for all your input girls...after I posted this this morning, i went to the gym and met w/ my new trainer and he is changing up my workkout and i am going to start meeting w/ him 2 days a week now instead of one and he emailed me a little meal plan and stuff so i feel much better and i did a ton of cardio today because i was discouraged...so i was at the gym for 2 hours....

so with your confidence and hopefully mine will increase i can get some better results.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
