How to pack the dress

Recommended Posts

Thanks for posting this question! I need to know too. We haven't made plane reservations yet but wondering what anyone's experience was flying Mexicana (or Alaska) with possible layover in Mexico City, so what is best way to pack and can they put it in a flight cabin closet of some sort? Thanks!!!

I am going to use my dress as my carry-on - I hope I can do that! I suppose I should check with the airline, another thing to add to my ever growing list of things to do....., but that is my plan! I am hoping to just keep it in the dress bag and put it in the overhead compartment somehow - or just hold on to it the whole time! I don't want to risk it getting lost in the luggage!!!!

We just got home and had no problems bringing my dress on the plane. That said, we did fly first class in the front row, just next t the closet so all of the flight attendants were very accommodating.

I left my dress in the bag from the bridal shop but I wrapped it in a clean white sheet b/c you could see though the bag a little. It had snowed 10 inches the day before so used a huge industrial clear trash bag on the bottom of the dress just in case the bottom of the closet was wet. This was all pinned together but not to the dress.

This was good since the closet turned out to be more of a cubby than a real closet. I would recommend sewing a loop on the bottom of the bag if there is not one to help hang it and carry it. I had a rather large dress and for much of the time carried it in half.

The dress was in great shape when we arrived though I did have it pressed. That only cost $16. All in all, everyone at the airport and on the flights were very sweet and accommodating.

Good luck! elefant.gif

There is a great thread on here about taking your dress on the plane. One bride said she had an awesome experience with Alaska Air. Everyone recommended to call the airline just to check the policy. A good point was made though that the person you talk to is just someone at a desk not someone at the check in counter and maybe not even at the airport, ha! But I sent Northwest (our airline) an email and they responded within 24hrs. Not only did they say that they would make every attempt to accomodate my dress but they kept saying congratulations to us! It seems like most peoples experince is that the flight attendants love to have brides and grooms on their flights and will help out as much as possible.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
