CA legal beach wedding?

Honestly all you need is someone to perform the ceremony and any pretty place will do! Since you're not having guests or anything like that you don't have to worry about permits or anything.

One thing I'm not 100% sure on is how you're going to get a CA wedding license since you don't live here. Dan and I had to go to the city records department together to get the license. This is not the same as a courthouse that marries you (you would still need this license to do that) it's the actual marriage license that a minister, priest, judge, etc. would sign. I know you have to both be there together and apply in person for it. So just keep that in mind as you will need to arrive in LA (or SD or SB, etc.) at least 1 business day prior so you can go to the county clerk's office and get your license. Here's the info:

California Marriage License, Registration and Ceremony Information - General Information

Here's the application you need to submit for your license:

We went to the Van Nuys office and were in and out in about 20 minutes. If you do decide to marry in CA iin the LA vicinity I recommend this office because it was not very crowded.

Laguna Beach has some nice relatively private areas and it is easy to fly into Orange County airport. Easy for anyone to get to that is flying in from out of town and lots of hotel options. For it to be legal you need to get forms from the county (different for each county) in which you plan to get married and register the marriage. Need recognized officiant and two witnesses to make it legal.

Pick a local officiant and they can help you with the details.

Beach weddings are nice but check the tides on the day planned as at high tide there may be a lot less beach to use. The last hour before sunset is a great time for a ceremony. My photographer, Bruce Stenman at Lightsmith Wedding, checked the tides and the sunset and even how best to have the ceremony oriented for my wedding day next year. A local photographer will know the best spots and can provide advice on parking, getting ready options, and other concerns that you might need even think of in your planning.

We are getting married at Scripp's Park in La Jolla, which is right outside the city of San Diego. It is a beautiful place! It is not right on the beach, but it sits on top of a cliff that is oceanside...check out this link. I am using San Diego Destination Weddings to plan my wedding and so far they have been wonderful!!

I am actually having a beach wedding in San Diego...on a cliff. If it's just going to be you, your fiance, and an officiant....then you're fine just walking out on any beach and doing your thing...even a small group (i'm talking 5-6 people) is ok. If you're going to have any significant size group (maybe 15-20), or seating/set up of any kind...then you need a permit. Permits are not expensive (couple hundred maybe), but they do only offer1 per day for the area. As far as locations...I would suggest Laguna or Dana Point...those two tend to have a little more private coves and what-not. I live in Huntington Beach, about a mile from the beach....that is just big open beach. Perfect if you're wanting to be in the large open area. As for San Diego....we're getting married at Sunset Cliffs in San Diego. These are dirt/sand cliffs that drop off into the ocean. The point I chose fits up to 150 people, but there is another point there that is smaller and still fantastic. I have pics of our location if you want to see it. email me at beachbunni307@ aol.com. The only disadvantage to having it on a public beach is that it has to be available to the public at all times...no roping anything off. I also found some officant/planners who do elopements....email me and I will find their info again for you. :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
